Trailer Wiring Harness for a 1995 Ford Ranger

Updated 06/10/2025 | Published 01/04/2016

Question:

This item is listed as a confirmed fit for my 1995 Ranger. Since it does not have a converter, as some other trailer wire harnesses have, is any additional wiring or splicing required? My Ranger has the original tailight connectors to tap in to. Please advise. Thank you!

The Hopkins trailer wiring harness # 40215 is a fit for your 1995 Ford Ranger and it does have a converter. It is smaller and looks different than other converters. I have pointed it out in the picture I have included for you. There are no additional wiring connections (other than the white ground wire) that you will need to make if you choose this harness.

I have purchased this product in the past and it fits physically, but doesn't work well. I have three things I use with the truck and I can only use them once, then the unit fails( I lose stoplight and turn signal function, running lights still work) and then I have to purchase a new one. I have contacted Hopkins about it...no response. My advice after purchasing 3 of them, Don't buy it. The trailers work ok on other vehicles, so I know the device on the Ranger is the problem.

@ScottM I don't love Hopkins electrical components as we have seen over and over they aren't super reliable. Next time you replace it I would recommend going with the Curt part # C55325 instead as we know it's much more reliable.
