Are Safety Chains Required with the Andersen Ultimate 5th Wheel Connection 5th Wheel Adapter
Published 12/18/2015 >
Question:
Looking at getting this hitch for my F-350. I have the factory prep kit on the truck. A friend has this hitch and when I put it in my truck it covers up the 4 holes that I can use for the chain hookup. Are chains required by any states if you are using this hitch? I have heard because it is a ball you have to and I have heard because it is a 5th wheel you do not. If I do are there any U-Bolts available that I could just drill down thru the bed into the gooseneck plate and attach them?

I spoke with my contact at Andersen to see if safety chains are required with the Ultimate 5th Wheel Connection # AM3225. He confirmed that safety chains are only required to be used with the Ultimate 5th Wheel Hitch in Indiana.
The Ultimate # AM3225 is classified as a 5th wheel hitch so most states do not require safety chains. If you do not live in Indiana or plan on traveling through, you can use the # AM3225 without safety chains.
If you do live in Indiana, I strongly recommend using a standard 5th wheel hitch to tow your 5th wheel trailer. The Ford prep package is not designed to have safety chain U-bolts added, and we do not have a kit to add U-bolts. The Reese Elite Series 5th Wheel Hitch with Slider # RP30144 is a great option for your 2015 F-350 with Factory Rail Kit.
