The Thule Sidekick Cargo Box, # TH78GC, will fit your 2009 Mercury Mountaineer with factory roof rack (side rails and cross bars).
If your Mountaineer just has side rails that run front to back, you will first need to add cross bars using Thule Evo Raised Rail Feet # TH710401, 53" WingBar Evo Crossbars # TH711420, as well as locks # TH450400.
The Sidekick mounts to your vehicles cross bars using U-bolts that come with the box.
