Published 11/25/2015

Question:

Hi. Ive got a 2010 CRV with a class 3 hitch 2 installed and need a cargo carrier for my Craftsman 26inch snow thrower. The dimensions of the snow thrower are 43inch high, 34inch blade to tire edge + 21 inch tire edge to handle long, and 27 3/4inch wide blade with sideguards is widest point at 27 ¾. Can you recommend some cargo carriers for me? Thanks.

I recommend using the Pro Series Steel Solo Cargo Carrier and Folding Ramp # PS10401-10402. Using a cargo carrier with a ramp will help you more easily load and unload your snow thrower from the carrier. The interior dimensions of this cargo carrier are 47-3/4 inches long x 31-3/4 inches wide. This carrier will work well to carry your 34 inch x 27-3/4 inch snow thrower.

The ramp measures 48 inches long and secures to the carrier with included lock pins and spring clips. Clean-up and snow build-up will not be a problem with the mesh bottom, as road debris and snow will be able to fall through the carrier. I have attached a review video of this carrier for you.

I recommend checking the tongue weight capacity of your 2010 Honda CR-V as well as the tongue weight capacity of your trailer hitch. The # PS10401-10402 carrier has a weight capacity of 400 pounds, and the carrier alone weights 105 pounds.

For tie-down straps, I recommend the Erickson Re-Tractable Ratchet Straps with Push Button Releases # 34414. These straps have a safe working load limit of 1,333 pounds.
