Per the attached installation instructions for the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver, part # C12053, you do not have to modify your Lincoln.
There is mention that you may have to enlarge one of the holes when installing the carriage bolt, but there is no other modification required. When installing this hitch you do have to remove the exhaust hanger brackets on both sides of the vehicle.
The hitch is a Class ll hitch and it has a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening. A note from Curt states that All non-trailer loads - bike racks, cargo carriers and so forth - should be supported with stabilizing straps like part # 18050. Failure to properly support these loads will void your hitch warranty from Curt.
if you plan on towing I recommend a ball mount like part # C45522. This drawbar is 11-1/4 inches long and has a 3-7/8 inch rise. If you need a hitch ball I recommend part # C40018 for a 2 inch hitch ball and part # C40001 for a 1-7/8 inch ball. I also recommend a hitch pin and clip like part # F-4.
Since you did not say what you intend to use the hitch for I have attached a couple links to some items you can check out.
