Can I mount permanent of front of my pickup to prevent me from hitting post etc. while pulling in a spot ? Is the unit waterproof?

The Rampage camera part # RA7710 is not rainproof so you would not want to mount it permanently. Also, it needs to be charged periodically so that would make charging it difficult.
A better solution for you would be the Hopkins Rear View Camera # HM60195VA installed on your front license plate.
