Will Using the Rightline Gear SUV Tent Drain Vehicle Battery

Question:
We are planning to purchase Rightline Gear 110907 SUV Tent. I am wondering if it will drain the battery on the highlander if the tailgate door is open when we are camping? How do we avoid that situation.

Most modern vehicles like your 2015 Toyota Highlander will automatically turn of the interior lights if a door is left open for an extended period of time. This feature is so that you don't drain the battery if someone happened to leave the door open.
You can test this by leaving the rear door open for about 5 minutes or so to see if the light eventually shuts off. For the interior lights there is usually a switch that will let you select what the light does including on with doors open, on with the button pushed only, or completely off. That would take care of that light.
