Can this hitch be stored backwards to avoid sticking out and tearing up my knees?

If there's nothing underneath the receiver tube to interfere, you can reverse the ball portion of the Diversi-Tech # DTALBM6600-2S Aluminum ball mount so it's on the back side of the shank, pointing toward the front of the vehicle.
