Scale Calibrations and Maximum Tongue Weight for Weigh Safe 2-Ball Mount with Scale # WS8-25
Question:
I was looking at the 14,500# ball hitch system. Your writeup leads me to believe that an acceptable tongue load is 10-15 of the gross trailer weight. However, if a 14,500# hitch system is being used, why does the gauge only read to 1500#? 15 of 14,500 is 2175# Is the gauge accurate linear above the 1500# mark? Thanks.

According to my technical contact at Weigh Safe the dial gauge on their Weigh Safe 2-Ball Mount # WS8-25 is calibrated to 1500-lbs but remains fully linear all the way to its maximum of 3000-lbs, meaning at the top of the red scale. It is entirely okay to pull a 14,500-lb trailer with a 15-percent (2175-lb) tongue weight, with the dial going partially into the red zone. They choose not to calibrate those points above 1500-lbs so as to encourage users to be conservative in the use of the mount. But again, it is perfectly okay to apply a tongue weight up to 2175-lbs.

I have just purchased the ws6-2 from weigh smart. After connecting my trailer fully loaded the truck squats significantly but the scale doesn’t even move. I can’t even lift the tung of the trailer by hand and I can easily lift 350 lbs. is there a way to calibrate the gauge or is there something that I need to do to get the scale to work properly? Thank you in advance.
