Question:
I have two 12 foot kayaks that are each 28inch wide and 50 pounds. I would like to carry them on an Acura MDX roof height = 68 with no factory roof rack installed. Im 6'3" tall. Would you recommend a side load or back load option? And what length cross bar would you suggest?

Expert Reply:
For your 2007 Acura MDX I recommend Rhino-Rack roof rack using 54 inch crossbars # RRVA137B-2, foot pack # RRRLKVA, and custom clamp kit # DK176. Then you could use 2 of the J-style carriers # S510, one for each kayak. These carriers hold the kayaks on their sides at an angle so you will be able to fit both on the roof. I don't think you would have any problem loading the kayaks from the sides of the vehicle.
You will want to consult the vehicle owners manual and/or Acura for the roof weight carrying capacity prior to loading.
