Do Straps Connect to Door Frame on Rightline Gear Foam Kayak Carrier

Question:

I have a 2011 Outback and a pair of foam kayak saddles. The saddles fit nicely on the cross bars, and the yak sits nicely in the saddles. But how do I tie down my kayak? The only way that makes sense to me is to run the straps through the car through the doors but I cant believe thats how theyre supposed to work. Help?
