The accelerometer of the Prodigy P2 Brake Controller part # 90885 is the sensor that can sense changes in inertia and tell the brake controller how much braking power to apply to the trailer's brakes. Axis refers to the different angles that the controller can be mounted and still properly sense the braking power.

Check out the picture I attached that shows the mounting angles the controller is compatible with.
