How to Install the Hopkins Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring for a 2006 Chevy Express Cutaway Van

Question:

I have a 2006 chevy express cutaway van with a spartan box setup in the back. I would like be able to tow with it but I do not see anything that is plug and play on your website. I have tried universal harnesses and my brake lights on the truck will fail after i try this. Any advice you could give me or point me in the right direction on what will work with my van?

The Hopkins Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring, # 31345, that you reference is the correct custom wiring for your 2006 Chevy Express Van. This unit contains a powered converter that has a direct connection to the battery so the harness does not draw all its power from your vehicle taillight wiring which will save your lights from failure.

To install, first find a suitable place to mount the converter. The best place is probably near the left taillight. Attach the white ground wire on the unit to an existing grounding point or to the vehicle frame. Next, you will plug the shorter length plugs (not the green wired one), in line with the left vehicle taillights. Then route the longer green wired plugs to the right taillight and plug them in line with that taillight wiring.

The last step is to run the red 12 volt power wire to the front of the vehicle. Route the wire underneath the vehicle, avoiding areas that will pinch or burn the wire, and up through the engine compartment. Next, you will attach this wire to the fuse holder wire with the fuse removed. Then attach the ring terminal on the other end to the positive battery terminal. The last step is to insert the fuse. Reassemble anything you might have taken apart and you will be done.
