Question:

Purchased a pair of 10,000 lb Bulldog jacks to stabilize a trailer when loading. The jacks are of a drop leg style. Theyre too long for the application and it appears there is no shorter option. Is it possible to disassemble the jack and then cut it down? Obviously the stroke will be limited and warranty voided, but this is a drop leg application so Id be willing to accept this. How do I disassemble the jack for the modification?

The issue is that there is a screw inside the jack that turns in either direct to raise or lower the jack. It threads through a fixed nut. At the very top of the screw the threads are all mashed up so that the leg can't just fall out. Basically there isn't a way to take the legs out without having to cut open the jack and then it is pretty much useless because it will have lost its capacity.

Could you go with a 7,200 pound jack? Drop leg jack # BD180354 is rated for 7,200 pounds at will be shorter with a retracted height of 22-7/8 inches. And # BD180304 is even shorter at 18-3/16 inches retracted height. The higher the capacity the taller the jack seems to be.
