Question:
When wiring the transmitter for a wireless or any backup camera, can I use the same connectors in the rear of my SUV that I use when wiring brake lights for a trailer? Or do I have to wire through the vehicle all the way to the battery?

The installation procedure will depend on the camera system used as well as the year, make and model of the vehicle.
Some camera systems gain their electrical power by tapping into the reverse lamp signal of the vehicle. A camera system like the Rampage Products # RA7710 is battery powered and transmits to your Android or iOS phone via Wi-Fi. The Hopkins Smart Hitch Camera System # HM50002 would tap into the trailer tow package wiring via the US Car connector used by most domestic full-sized trucks.
