Your ATV battery may not have a high enough amp hour rating to run the electric winch. The power requirements may be on the winch or if you can tell me the model I may be able to figure out what it requires.
If your battery is rated high enough there could be something wrong with the battery (especially if it is old) and the extra load of running the winch is too much for it. For example, the LT2000 winch draws 100 amps at full load and 10 amps at idle. The more weight or work the winch is pulling/doing the more power it needs. At some point its power requirements seem to exceed the capacity of the battery.
