Trailer Hitch and Cargo Carrier for a 2000 Ford Mustang GT Convertible

Question:

I own a 2000 Mustang Gt Convertible. If you have a comparable roof rack I would be extremely interested in all the parts that are required. If you do have all he parts listed I wont get confused on what I need to purchase for my vehicle. The other information I am really interested in is what hitch is the best for my vehicle draw tire or hidden hitch if so which drill bit and with bolt leader wire is compatible with the proper sizes. I looked at the cargo baskets that fit on a hitch but was unable to figure out which one that again is compatible with the ball size or receiver size. Sorry for all the ?s but Ive been looking at your site for two days and am in need of the parts very soon and I dont want to order wrong parts because I have to travel.

You will not be able to install a roof rack on a 2000 Ford Mustang GT convertible. The soft top prohibits installation of any kind of roof rack.

For trailer hitches, Draw-Tite and Hidden Hitch are owned by the same company and the hitches even share the same instructions. If you will not be towing anything then the Draw-Tite hitch # 24687 would be the way to go. This is because the Hidden Hitch model comes with a ball mount which you will not need if you are not towing.

For installation you will need a 7/16 inch Rotabroach drill bit, # 40110. You might not need a bolt leader if your Mustang has the rectangular access hole (see instructions link). Otherwise it would be a 7/16, # 80103-1.

For a cargo carrier you will need one that is compatible with a Class I hitch. I have included a link to the options for you. The trailer hitch has a tongue weight capacity of 200 pounds. This means that the combined weight of the carrier you choose and the cargo loaded on it cannot exceed 200 pounds.
