Video Transcript for Closer Look at the Michelin RainForce Wiper Blades - 2024 Hyundai Kona

Hi, Matt with etrailer, and today, we're talking about the Michelin RainForce windshield wipers on our 2024 Hyundai Kona. Now this is gonna be a frame style windshield wiper blade, and that's nice if you're looking for something that's gonna have even pressure throughout your windshield, versus more of a beam style that's gonna apply a lot of pressure just at maybe two points. To show you what I'm really talking about, the one that we have, we already have one installed, and that's gonna be on our 16 inch blade. And if you look here, we're gonna have one, two, three, four, five, six points. And each one of these points are applying pressure, so that's nice that this is dispersed throughout the whole blade. That's really nice when you do get a lot of rain that's coming down, maybe a little bit of snow, and some of that isn't really being caught.

This is actually gonna be able to catch a lot of that and push it away instead of just getting some gaps that we're missing. What's really nice too is gonna be the blade itself. We're gonna have a graphite coating to this, and what that graphite coating does is when you get to those spots where there is only maybe a little bit of water on your windshield, this is going to prevent this from skidding around or skipping and making that noise. And this is gonna be made from a natural rubber, so it's gonna be very durable. Along with that, we're gonna have this very durable frame, and this is gonna be made from a stainless steel, so it's gonna be very weather resistant.

It's gonna last you a long time. It also has these holes that are cut out from it, and these cutouts are gonna be nice because we're not gonna have a lot of wind pushing against us, so it's gonna stay closer to our windshield. Now something to think about with that design though is when you have a lot of snow that is building up on your windshield, a lot of that can get caught into those gaps. That's definitely something to consider too, because that's gonna really affect how these perform. Now something I'd recommend checking out if that's a concern for you would be another Michelin one, and that's gonna be the Cyclone windshield wiper blades.

That actually has a rubber shell on the outside of it, and that's gonna be rounded too, so it's also gonna be aerodynamic. That's gonna prevent a lot of that snow buildup. But one of the big things I like to check out with these is how they actually perform. So I'm just gonna spray it down real quick with some water and see how much this is actually gonna pick up, because at the end of the day, you can talk about how nice a blade is and what it offers someone, but I like to actually test it out to see how it's gonna look. So let's see what we're dealing with.

So what I'm looking for here at this point is seeing if we're getting a lot of streaking, if it's missing any points, or if it's not really applying enough pressure. With the standard ones, we're still getting a bit of streaking, but right now on the inside, I'm not seeing any streaking at all, which is pretty nice. Now of course, a lot of times, there'll be maybe one or two streaks left over. That's not really that big of a deal. That's something I can definitely live with, especially when you compare it to something that comes standard on your vehicle. Yeah, I'm not seeing any streaking right now. And that's really nice because at the end of the day, that's something you're gonna be driving with constantly, and you don't want to have to deal with that on those rainy days, which could really make the difference between a safe drive and a not safe drive. And as far as really installing them, they're pretty simple to do. Really show you what I'm talking about, I'll get it all ready. All I have to do is turn on my car, put this into the park position. I gotta turn off my car real quick too. We have this in the park position. This is gonna make our lives a lot easier if it's in this position. And I recommend grabbing a towel just to rest this on because when you have these metal arms, if they we inchesre to come down into your windshield, they could crack it. So just having something to protect your windshield is gonna make a world of difference, just in case anything happens. And really just taking these old ones off isn't too bad. There's gonna be a tab underneath here. I'm gonna pull on that and then pull the whole blade towards me. And I can just maneuver this around a bit. And that's the thing with these, sometimes they will get caught on something, but once it's off, you can just lower this back down to your towel. From there, I'm just gonna grab my new blade. You wanna make sure that this rounded area here at the top is facing up. This area with the tab is facing down. Then I'm just gonna line that all up, push it in so clicks and grabs into place, and then I can lower that down. Then at that point, you really just repeat that process on the other side. And I'd also recommend just doing a test run, just to make sure everything's working properly, it's gripping to your windshield, it's doing its job. And if it is, you can take it out for a ride.
