Hi everyone, I'm Evangeline right here at etrailer. Today we have the Rhino-Rack Pioneer six platform. This is an improved design where it's lighter, more capability, more things can fit on it, and it's gonna be a great base platform for all of your gear, for all of your adventures. Will this work on your vehicle Well, the first question you actually should be asking is, will any Rhino-Rack, crossbar, or roof rack fit on your vehicle Because Rhino-Rack made it where the channels or the underbar system is exactly like their vortex or sports crossbars. So you would just use the exact same towers or legs that you attach to your vehicle, and then you just put the platform on top instead of a crossbar system. For example, this truck usually has some heavy duty crossbars on top.
We just reused the legs and switched out the bars for this cool platform rack. So with that in mind, you can always double check our fit guide here at etrailer, put your year, make, and model, and then we give out all the roof rack fits for your vehicle. So if any of those say Rhino-Rack, chances are you can also get a platform. Which brings me to my second point. How much gear can you actually put on a platform What's the actual weight capacity of a Rhino-Rack Pioneer six platform That question always gets me, because in all honesty, you always have to check the vehicle manual for a roof weight capacity.
Now, aftermarket manufacturers like Rhino-Rack use that roof rating to then put all kinds of gear on top of it for your different adventures. So with that in mind, I can't tell you the specific number of what this can actually carry. I can tell you though, that if your vehicle can carry a lot, this can too. This platform, specifically the 59 by 49 inch one, weighs only 36 pounds, but it's made of really strong alloys that even if I put kayaks, a roof tent, or really heavy things on here, it will hold up. All throughout the platform, everything looks super sleek, but when you feel it, touch it, interact with it, it's also really durable.
So this has an aluminum alloy throughout most of the platform. Now there's different channels along it that you can add items to, but you also wanna pay close attention to the angles or rather the lack of angles. So with this being lighter, there's about 60% reduction in drag compared to the old Pioneer platform rack. So making it the quietest and lightest offering from Rhino-Rack so far. What all that means for me is that when I am loading heavier items on top of a platform, I'm scratching and scraping at the platform, sliding things through, that's okay.
This is designed to hold up to that. Plus the materials it's made of means it doesn't corrode. Now, if you did check your owner's manual for your roof weight rating, good for you. You might have some questions there though, and that's gonna be the rating you see may or may not stay static and dynamic. So what if your weight rating says 165 pounds Well, I'm not gonna say how much I weigh, but if you have a rooftop tent up here and you wanna sleep in a tent, that's over 165 pounds. That's because your parts. So when you're parts and the platform isn't going anywhere, that's a static weight rating. Usually that's gonna be in the 300, 500, 700 pound range depending on what vehicle you have. Dynamic weight rating is what is on your roof when you drive. Now I can be on this platform right now because we are not driving. The moment someone hops into that driver's seat, I'm off of this roof. So that's gonna be your dynamic weight rating. So when you travel, how much weight can you actually carry Which brings us to our final main question. So what kind of gear can I put on the platform Well, Rhino-Rack patent air platforms, they've got their pros and cons. Their pros, great weight capacity, lots of channels, lots of spots to put things. Their downsides really is gonna be where you put the things because they have channels that run front to back when most other brands run side to side. However, if you have Rhino-Rack specific accessories, you can then fully utilize this unique design. And bonus points if you get a Zwifloc accessory. Compared to other channel mounted accessories where you have to find a large opening to fit your mount through and then you can slide it through the rest of the channel, Zwifloc, you could put this pretty much anywhere. It has a block on the inside that once you start turning it, it locks into place. So you no need to move a gazillion things out of the way before you install one new item. You just drop your accessory into place anywhere along the platform, slide it around, and then you just tighten it down and then Zwifloc locks into place for you. So this really opens up the Pioneer platform to something that's a lot easier to use and easier to install accessories into. So what if you have your favorite accessories from other brands Will that still work on Orion Rack Pioneer platform It might. I can't say for certain, but there are some situations where you could channel mount something sideways like let's say a ski and snowboard carrier, that could go this way. There's also the East-West underbars that some things could still clamp into as an option. So I'm not saying everything will definitely work, but I'm not ruling out all the options. In fact, if you have a cool setup where you found that your favorite accessory totally fits super well on the Pioneer platform, I'd love to hear about it. Please send us a picture or a video of your setup that way I can see other cool ways to use platforms and other people can get inspired too. So my biggest tip for you really is to do your research before you get a platform and decide what is your priority for your adventure. Because other platforms have great features for them, depending on what you are looking for. Like the Rhino-Racks, I guess lack of versatility for other brand accessories might be a deal breaker for you if you have a specific carrier that you can't live without. But if you are planning to build from the base and you really wanna maximize your weight capacity on your vehicle, so you want something that is lighter as well as quieter, as well as really easy to install, then the Pioneer Series six platforms from Rhino-Rack might be a really good option for you. Again, they are available in different shapes, in different sizes, as well as different mounting options. So the biggest thing that people get confused by is how to fit it on your vehicle. So hopefully, like I mentioned at the very beginning of this video, our fit guide as well as my instructions for just following roof rack compatibility is helpful for you for seeing if this will work for you, your vehicle, and your adventures. Slik in design, tough in outlook, easy to assemble this is rhino roof rack awesome ready for today and future adventure.
This rack is super solid. Took about an hour to put it together and another hour to mount it on my truck. Clear instructions and very easy to install yourself with even a basic skill set. Etrailer got it to me in 3 days for free! Can’t say enough about the service and the prices from etrailer.

I tried to buy this Rhino-Rack through the dealer who strung me out and then didn't deliver. Should've gone here in the first place. etrailer.com has always excelled in delivery and product availability for me.
Just perfect, my shipment arrived in a couple of days. There was a hole in the box that may have occured during shipment that resulted in one of the slat being scratched, luckily I had black satin paint so I just soared over it so problem solved. Took me a while to assemble the platform as fherr were a lot of bolts and nuts to turn. But the end result is a nice sturdy platform rack that I will be putting to good use for my family’s upcoming adentures.
Fantastic rack, easily modified to accommodate tents/cargo/whatever. It's not quiet though, so do yourself a favor and get the faring.
Got a great deal on this rack was discounted more than most other sizes. fits on topper fine uses all the space and makes a hand hold when stepping up on tailgate.

Fantastic experience! I spent weeks researching rack options for my GX460. At the end of my rope with literally NO good options, the good folks at etrailer talked me thru some great ideas and I went with the RhinoRack Universal Platform, attached to Yakima RailGrab Towers. My etrailer order was delivered within 48hrs and installed within another 12hrs. Great fit, great look. No rattles and surprisingly, no wind noise. I’ll be back for accessories! GREAT experience.
Product arrived in a timely manner. Shipper banged up the outer package pretty bad but all products inside were wrapped all snug and secure. Only complaint is the plank came with the plank inserts already set. During shipping, one of these inserts shifted down well inside the plank. It took a very long time to retrieve it. Also, having those inserts already in place, one had the nut reversed and had to be removed, that as well took a long time to pry out of the plank. It's a great platform, I now own three. I would definatelt purchase again from etrailer.
Well I must say I am impressed--with the Rhino Rack and etrailer! This big ole Pioneer platform package arrived really quickly and was in perfect shape in and out--none of this already opened noise you hear about from sketchy vendors. The platform quality is also really good; I didn't expect it to be so good. I also really like how low it sits; they were obviously designing this to fit the Outback just right. I am a happy camper! 2021 Ram 1500 crew cab, didn’t want to stack this pioneer rack on a set of bars, but I was able to use the HD 2500 mounts with dk504 fit kit, and go directly from rack to feet. Still sits high, but not as high as it would’ve. Pioneer rack accessories are $$ , but there are lots of options

The Rhino pioneer roof rack and vortex crossbars are going to work great on my Ram Truck with Retrax tonneau cover to help me carry extra gear. I also have the Yakama HD overhaul rack for carrying my kayaks. Everthing fits perfectly!
Very nice platform that fit my needs. Costs a bit more than some others, but once it is put together it is very solid. I like the eco-system of tie-downs, mounts, etc. that you can get for it. Those accessories are what really makes it worth it. The flexibility of the channels makes mounting everything easy and quick. This rack doesn't come with the specific mounts for any vehicle, so make sure you look for whatever you need to attach it to your rack as well. Assembly took longer than I expected (about 3-4 hours, including mounting to my vehicle), with over 100 bolts to assemble. Comes with a nice torque wrench that helps a lot. Instructions were good overall, but pay attention to the screws for the corners, as they are mislabeled. Also, measuring guidelines painted on the side rails are nice, but they are not perfectly aligned on the left and right side. I found it easier to use a tape measure and pencil to make sure the cross supports were straight. While I didn't use them yet, this rack also has internal wiring channels enclosed in the perimeter frame that I could see being very useful.

Bought the Rhino Rack 60 x 54 platform to mount over the bed of my '20 Jeep Gladiator. Then I will mount a Thule Cargo Box onto platform for additional storage of camping gear.
I decided to go Rhino Rack because it really gives you options. I like the antenna mount options for my CB and Ham radio.
Top quality materials and finish. Much nicer than I had anticipated.
Package came well packed and in good order. But be advised it's pretty heavy.
Assembly will look quite daunting at first. I would advise finding an elevated surface that is larger than the platform you purchase. One easy way is to empty your garage and get two 3 x 6 folding tables or 2 sawhorses and a piece of plywood. Put down a light colored cloth or blanket on work surface as not to scratch your platform.
Make sure you received the size you ordered prior to opening box.
Unpack box and find hardware box. I had a small clear plastic fishing lure organizer in which I put all hardware in. Trust me, there's a lot of hardware. You may then count all hardware against packing list if you wish.
Set that hardware aside. Preview instructions as they are fairly clear. Then just lay out all the pieces upside down in the order they go together making sure all parts are accounted for. Then follow the instructions and you should be good to go.
Have no hesitations in buying from etrailer. There customer service is fantastic and returns are super easy.
I installed this on a '99 Lexus LX470 (Toyota Land Cruiser 100 series). I have had 0 issues with this rack and the options are seemingly endless.
Here is what I've had mounted to this rack:
1- Black Oak LED 40" light bar using Rhino Rack brackets
2- Max Trax recovery treads
3- Jerry Can
4- Mountain bike - had to spend 100 on correct rail/fork mount, but it works flawlessly
5- Oz Tent Foxwing awning - used Rhino Rack Foxwing brackets
6- Shovel / Hi-lift jack dual brackets - only had shovel mounted
7- Tepui Roof Top Tent - Kukenam Ruggedized - used Eezi Awn K9 brackets and made it super easy to mount.
My ONLY complaint is that for a rack this expensive (all racks are expensive) I wish they would rivet a metal "RHINO RACK" logo to the product. The decals start peeling after a short time and makes a really great quality rack look cheap.
I will also add this note: Add-ons and all the extras get really expensive. It's like stepping into vacuum for your money. Once you get over the initial investment, you've only just begun. Now, you've got to mount things to it and that's where you really have to PLAN IT OUT AHEAD OF TIME. You need to have a game plan of what you want to do with it, otherwise you will have a boat load of bolts/brackets/clamps etc. that you end up not using. There are usually more than one way of getting something attached. So, ask yourself if you really need that 100.00 bracket or if a ratchet strap will do the same thing. Also, don't get overcome by the "coolness" factor. Do you REALLY need that Hi-lift jack, or do you just want to keep up with all the Jeepsters out there. If you take that approach, you'll be ahead of the game.
I deducted one star for the decals and for all the accessories being so overly expensive....but they DO WORK REALLY WELL.
This is not a mark on Etrailer. Etrailer is AAA+ Their customer service is top notch and have always provided me with great communication and service.
Purchased this about a month ago after having a mediocre cargo basket that started to rust after 2 weeks. This platform is not only more convenient and adaptable but it looks [really] great! Took some time to assemble but I made that every piece fit and lined up correctly. Nice finish and strongly constructed. I should have gotten this first! I also got the matching rail system to complete the set-up. Highly recommended. Shout out the the staff at etrailer for again for the great communication from start to finish!
Great product, excellent quality, great finish very sturdy and mounted to my Vortex bars perfectly.
Couple of cons but I'm not going to knock down the review because of it. Product came with instructions that are out of date for the new racks they are shipping. Platform also came with some missing hardware. Two missing nut retainers,two nuts,two screws and two washers. Was able to put it together with Hardware I had on hand..
This rack works perfectly on our 2025 Coachmen Nova. The platform mounted to the Thule bars easily and provides a flexible solution for storing camping and other gear.
