Dustin: Hey everyone. Dustin here at etrailer.com. Today on my personal vehicle, I've actually installed Highland's Rear Cargo Mat. It's an all weather mat. It's semi-custom, so you can trim it to fit your specific needs. I'm going to go through it with you today, show you some of the things I like about it.Now with any cargo mat, the goal is to keep the rear of your vehicle clean and free of dirt, debris and spills, and with the Highland mat it's really no different, except it's got some additional features that I really like about it, one of which is these raised tread areas.

So if you can imagine you have a cooler back here along with some luggage. You're heading out camping and to the lake for the weekend and your cooler starts to leak. The last thing you want is some of that water to transfer over to your luggage and get it all wet. Well, these raised ridges here will help keep your items sitting above that, giving a space for that water to flow and channel away from, and keep your items back here nice and dry.Additionally, if you've got any mud or debris back here, it's going to form in these valleys and stay off of your items. Another thing I like is the semi custom design.

What I mean by that is, there are plenty of liners out there that are designed specifically to fit the rear areas of vehicles, but that's not the case for all vehicles and with my particular vehicle, I could not find a custom fit liner. But what this allowed me to do is it actually comes to you larger than this. It's got these predetermined slotted areas that allow you to trim it out in various configurations to get the closest possible fit on your vehicle.Here on the bottom there are some nibs that are designed to dig into your factory carpet to help it from shifting. So imagine if you've got your dog back here on a road trip. You don't want him slipping inside and around or her for that matter.

And what this is going to do is going to help dig into that carpet and keep this in place.It's a heavy duty rubber, which is great because it won't crack, unlike some other mats. It's easily flexible and easy to remove, which is great because that makes it easy to clean. Now with your factory carpet, if you we're to clean it, you'd have to get out the vacuum. If there was any serious stains in there, you'd be out here scrubbing. It's not removable.

It's not easy to clean. This is going to prevent that, having this installed. We'll show you that now. So to clean it, I'm just going to hose it off. If it was really dirty I could get out some soap and water, but most of the time you're just going to be able to hose off any that muck and then what you'll do is just leave it out in the sun to air dry. Put a right back in place and you're good to go.Now that we've gone over some features, I'll go ahead and show you how easy it is to get installed. Going to go ahead and just set it in place and the rear of your vehicle. Now if you have the large enough SUV and you're lucky enough, it might just lay into place. As you can see here with mine, we're going to have to do some trimming. That's okay. We'll walk through it together.So after you've laid it in place, you can kind of get an idea of where you'll need to trim in order for it to fit your vehicle. What I did and what I recommend you do is so you don't cut it wrong, you mark out the areas that you are wanting to trim. I just use some blue painter's tape to do that. If you are marking the side you're going to be trimming off, you can use a marker or something like that. So what we're going to be doing is to make it fit, I'm going to be taking off these two panels here on either side and then don't feel like you have to go straight down. There are these curves here as well to match the contours of your vehicle.So what I'm actually going to do is come here and notch that out so I can still have access to this panel right here for coverage. And then finally in the rear, these are just tabs from the factory that they use for shipping. You're going to want to cut those off regardless, and I'm going to cut those off and probably won't need to do any trimming here at the top.Now I don't recommend you do any trimming in your vehicle. That way you can avoid any issues. You can use a sharp pair of scissors or I'm going to use a razor knife. I just set it down here on the floor. This is going to be your garage floor or your driveway. And then I'm going to use my razor knife to go ahead and trim out the areas that we marked. So I'm going to start here with our tabs at the top. Just going to score that with the razor knife. And as you can see, no real issue. Just comes right off. I'm going to repeat that with the remaining two tabs.Now if you're concerned at all about scratching up your garage floor or dulling a knife, you can go ahead and put down a piece of cardboard under this while you make your cuts. I'm going to trim out my side here. As you can see we'll be going down along this line. Then once we get up here, we're going to kind of do a diagonal pattern along these dips right here. Same principle. It's just a soft, easy to cut rubber here in the middle and I'll get that trimmed out for you as well.You can see how nice that looks with just a little effort. We're going to repeat the same process on the other side. Once you've got your trimming done and set it back into place in your cargo area, you're ready to load up some gear and hit the road. Gone ahead and loaded some gear back up here and see with our mat in place, everything's going to be nice and secure. Stay in place, won't have to worry about any spills. We should be set for a long time. And that's going to do it for our look at the Highland All Weather Mat for the cargo area.
