Video Transcript for Underhood Work Light Spec Review

What's up everybody. It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today we will be checking out the performance tool, under a hood, LED work light. As you can see, we already have the set up with the lights out. It's gonna be a nice way to illuminate the engine compartment of your vehicle. You know, it's nice spread out light, instead of having that one flashlight that's just for precision spots, which you can still use that, but it's nice that it's up and out of the way.

That way I can get up in here and need, mess with anything, I need to mess with it, and I don't have to worry about holding a flashlight on my shoulder or under my arm or something like that. It's spread out. I can easily see everything. Let's check it out. Taking a closer look at the light bar itself, it's gonna be 16 inches long, it's gonna be two and a half inches wide, and it's going to have eight LEDs right here.

So it's plenty bright, you saw it here, in the engine compartment, it lit up the whole thing. You have a couple of different ways you can attach it. You have these on the end, then grab onto the sides of the hood. You also have a cord that goes and retracts when its not being used. So we're gonna set it up.

Just put one on this end of the hood, its gonna to stay there and then just pull it all the way to this end and take this clamp, put on that side, and now it hangs freely. Now you can also, move it back and forth, which is pretty cool, I wasn't expecting it to do that. So wherever you need it to be, you can move it and direct that light where you need it. So you can see if you want more over here, you can have more over here. That way you're not wasting your light over there.

If you want more in the middle to cover everything, you can do that too. Now, if you need to angle it and you don't really like it moving around like that as much you can detach it here. It has got a hooks on the backside where you can specifically point it where you want. So then it's going to always be there. You don't have to worry about moving it. It's not going to move as much that way. And in fact, you can even probably get rid of this one. Use the other hook on the other side, if you had another attachment point, you find a better spot there and go up here on that hook. And let's just go ahead and use the bars propping that up, hold in place. Now it's going to move far less and it's right directly here, if that's where you need it. And there's two modes for the light. So the first one's gonna be the brightest one. That one's gonna be 513 lumens. And the second one is going to be 256. So pretty bright on that first one. The second one, just dims it a little bit, if you don't quite need all that light shining right at you. The really cool thing about it, it's got built-in magnets on the back. So it wasn't quite getting it to work with underneath the hood just because it wasn't flat surface. So it really needs all three of these magnets to stick anywhere. So the good thing is you can store it anywhere. If you wanna put it on top of your toolbox. We have a cabinet here we keep some our tools and stuff in. It's gonna sit right on their side, right next to this outlet, so I can just plug it in and keep it charging. And it's up and out away from everything else. Just to test of strength, I went ahead and put it on the side of my door. It's a nice flat contact point for all three magnets. Slammed the door, it still stays right there. So that was pretty impressive. I thought for sure it was gonna fall down. I slammed pretty hard that time, but the first time on a normal light slam. Doesn't move. When you got it plugged in and its charging, you'll see the little red light that let's you know it is charging up. Now you can still use it while it's charging. So I just want to point that out. That is important with some of these electronics. Sometimes you can't do that and that's kind of a pain. It's got a rechargeable battery here on the backside and that's what's charging up when you have a plugged in. That can be kind of nice because you can replace that and down the line, if it starts wearing out, it doesn't last for four hours and twenty-five minutes like it's supposed to, you can probably get a replacement one. They make it brand new again. So overall I think it's pretty handy. As someone that had spent plenty of time holding a flashlight, when working on stuff, I think this is gonna be way better than me holding that flashlight in the wrong spot. This gives you more coverage of the area, comparing it to a flashlight. Again, more coverage is good. It's not just one single beam and you can still use that flashlight to get specifically where you need to go, but you can also angle this a bunch of different ways to get exactly where you need it without having to have a second person to help you out. Well, I think that does it. Thanks for hanging out and I hope this helped..

  • LED Underhood Work Light That Shines Down No Matter How It Hangs
Hey Fiona! Yes, the Underhood LED Work Light # PT67RR is designed with a counter-balanced housing, so it always points straight down and doesn’t sag or swing out of place. The sliding bar also helps you center the light exactly where you need it, which means once it’s set you can focus on the job instead of fussing with your light. If you do want it locked into a very specific spot, you can always use the magnets or hooks on the back. Do you normally do longer repair sessions where stability...

  • Recommended Lights For Grilling After Dark
While that would be a pretty handy light design, we unfortunately don't currently carry anything that matches what you described. That being said, we do offer a work light # PT67RR that's magnetic, has hanging hooks, and retractable hooks to grip onto other things. We also carry headlamps like the PT Power LED Headlamp # PTW2660 to help you see while you grill. And if that's not your style then you can always go with a good ole trusty flashlight like the # AT97VR.

  • LED Portable Work Light For Getting Deep In Engine Bay Working On Car
Ron, yes, the Slim Work Light # PT47RR Info is only 1.5 inches wide and about 15 inches long, so it’s designed to slide right into confined spaces such as by the firewall when working deep in the civic engine bay. For larger, even lighting, the # PT67RR underhood bar is a nice complement. Do you think you’d benefit from having both styles? Or what type of repair are you trying to use this for?

  • LED Work Light Options For RV Repairs And Mechanics - hangin light bar vs slim work light
Sheryl, for big open spaces like an engine bay or RV storage compartment, the # PT67RR underhood bar is the way to go - it lights everything evenly, so you don’t have to chase shadows. But when you’re inside a cabinet or working on tight wiring behind a panel, the # PT47RR slim light shines literally because it can slide into those tight spaces and has adjustable brightness. Many RV owners keep both: one for full coverage, one for detail work. Do you find yourself working more on large...

  • LED Work Light Bar That Sticks To Toolbox Or Fender Of Car With Magnets
Tessa, yes, the Underhood Work Light LED # PT67RR has magnets on the back that let you attach it to any flat steel surface. A lot of folks store it right on the side of a toolbox or metal cabinet, often near an outlet so it can stay plugged in and charging. You can also use those magnets to mount it as a work light in places other than under a hood, like inside a trailer or against a shop wall. It’s a handy feature that turns it into more than just an “engine bay” light. Would you mostly...

  • Is The Underhood Work Light LED Adjustable Or Fixed Mounting?
Clint, the design is clever on the underhood light bar # PT67RR - it’s counter-balanced so the light always points straight down. That way you’re not fiddling with it every few minutes while you’re wrenching. You can also slide the bar side to side along the wires to position it exactly where you want across the hood. Another way to use it is with the magnets on the back which allow it to shine straight no matter what, instead of hanging. If you need something that you can twist or aim...

  • LED Slim Magnet Light For Working On Car VS Underhood Light Bar That Hangs
Nate, the # PT47RR slim LED light is the best for tight compartments where you need detail, while the # PT67RR underhood bar spreads bright floodlight across the whole bay for a big project. Do you spend more time in cramped cabinet spaces or engine bays, or just need an overall big light for the entire area? You may benefit from having both.

  • LED WorkLight That Extends And Retracts For Working Under Different Sizes Of Vehicle Hoods
Mark, yes, the # PT67RR light bar stretches out to about 78 inches, so it will have no problem spanning the wide hood on your F-150, no matter where the hooks or openings are on your hood. What’s nice is that when you’re done, it retracts down to less than 18 inches long, so it doesn’t eat up a bunch of room in your toolbox or truck. A lot of folks just stick it to the side of a cabinet or toolbox with the built-in magnets, so it’s always charged and ready. For someone who drives a full-size...

  • How Many Brightness Settings Are On The Underhood Work Light LED PT67RR ?
Arturo, this light has high and low mode. On high this work light bar # PT67RR pumps out about 513 lumens, which is plenty to flood an entire bay so you’re not squinting or working in shadows. When you don’t need all that, there’s also a low mode at 256 lumens, which still covers a lot of space but won’t blind you if you’re staring upward at the hood. A lot of mechanics like running it on low when they’re doing longer tasks, just to reduce glare and eye fatigue and make it last longer on...

  • Can Underhood LED Work Light 18650 Be Powered By Cord Or Just Rechargeable Battery?
Greg, the # PT67RR light is powered two ways: first, it has a rechargeable 18650 lithium-ion battery built in, so you can work cord-free. Second, if you’re near an outlet, you can plug it in with the included USB cable and keep using it indefinitely. That dual setup means you won’t be stuck if the job runs longer than the battery. Some folks even keep a spare rechargeable 18650 battery on hand since the battery is replaceable down the road. That's a huge plus compared to most lights like...
