Video Transcript for Putting on the Guardian Comfort Custom Truck Tailgate Mat - 2026 Ram 1500

Hi, this is Scott with etrailer. Today we're taking a look at installing the Guardian Comfort Custom Truck Tailgate Mat on our 2026 Ram 1500. Our tailgate mat we have on our Ram today is gonna be nice if you wanna protect your tailgate from bumps and bangs and scratches from scratching up your tailgate. Our neighbor today has a brand new truck, so they wanted something that would protect it from getting all scratched up when they put things in and out. They also wanted something that they can sit on when they go camping, and this is gonna make it a little bit more comfortable than just our tailgate with just the paint on it. Another nice thing about this is it's super easy to install.

It's gonna go on with hook and loop, and it's gonna stay on here all the time. It's gonna be easy to clean. It's gonna be mold resistant. One thing I recommend, though, is if you ever haul a lot of gravel or molds or things like that, I would kinda maybe at least take this off and just pull this off and put it up before you do stuff like that 'cause it can get embedded into the fibers of this, but other than that, for day-to-day use, it's pretty simple to deal with. If it gets dirty or dusty, say you do a lot of gravel roads or something like that, all you're gonna have to do is just hose this off and it cleans up really nice.

To start our installation, I like to take our bed mat and get it laid on my tailgate and get an idea of where that's gonna go. Now on the back of our mat, we're gonna have these loop fasteners already attached and those are sewn to it.

We need to be figuring out where about these are gonna be going. So with that laid in place, I can see that my one side is gonna end up right up here at the top, and my other is gonna run right down on this bottom of this channel right here. So what I'll do is now that I know where about it's gonna be, we're gonna have to get this cleaned up with alcohol, that way we have a clean spot for the adhesion on our hook and loop to go and have a good surface. Now, again, if your tailgate's pretty dirty, you're gonna wanna take some soapy water and get that cleaned up pretty good, and then come back through with some alcohol. Now, if you have a spray-in bed liner on the back, what you're gonna wanna do there is just go ahead and get that really clean, and then you can come back through with some steel wool or sandpaper and just rough up that area to give that a nice clean area to start.

And then what you'll do is you're gonna have adhesion promoter that you will use for that. Now, with this, we won't be using this on our painted surfaces. This is only gonna be for if you have a spray-in bed liner, and this is just gonna help your hook and loop stick to your tailgate. In our kit, we're gonna have these strips, and these are gonna be cut, so we just wanna get all these separated. Get these pulled away. Leave our sticky stuff attached to our protective layer there. Just leave those together. Just get 'em all separated. With our mat flipped over, what we'll do now is we'll take our hook side, and we'll just get that attached to our loop side. Just kinda evenly space 'em. You can even lay 'em out before you stick 'em down. That way, you have an idea of how many you need per side. It's usually best to go ahead and do that and just spread those out. And these are gonna serve as our attachment points. We're gonna have seven of 'em up top and seven of 'em on the bottom. I just go along and just get these stuck on. With our mat flipped back over and orientated, we're gonna have our rounded side down here towards the bottom of our tailgate. What I like to do at this point is just kinda get it lined up where I want it to be even on both sides and try and make a straight line out of our top section. So what we'll do is get it right where we want it, check it a couple times, make sure it's perfect. After that, we can start rolling this back, and we'll take some of our protective end off our tape, and we can just push that down, working all the way across. And I like to just work all the way from one end all the way down and just start top and bottom and do those as well. Make sure it's right where you want it, kinda push it into position. Now we'll just roll this back on our way down, and we'll just keep pushing it down until we have it stuck down. After we have everything put down and it's sticking down really well, I like to go along my edges of my seams where we have our hook and loop, and I'll just get that pushed down really hard. You wanna be pretty aggressive, that way you can get the adhesive to stick down to the paint. And that was a look at our Guardian Comfort Tailgate Mat on our 2026 Ram 1500.
