What's up everybody It's AJ with etrailer.com. Today, we're checking out this PTC custom-made air filter for our 2022 Ram 3500. Now, what we're gonna do is replace our factory one today. And you're gonna see, when we pull that out, how dirty that is. Now, it hasn't been in there that long, but you're still gonna see how much a filter has to work to get some of that dirt and debris from getting anywhere in your engine and causing it harm. But that's why you wanna check that pretty frequently and swap these out.

That way you can make sure that doesn't happen. So, looking at them side by side, I think I don't even have to tell you which one's the new one, which one's the old one, but this is the old one and this is the new one. So clearly, there has been some particles that have been filtered out. It is doing its job, it's keeping that contaminants from getting into the engine and damaging anything. So we wanna keep that fresh.

We're gonna keep using a good filter. This vehicle isn't as old at that point, but it's okay. We're gonna put this new one in just to make sure it goes longer. Looking closer at the filter, we can see the embossed paper pleats here that make it up and help collect that dirt and debris and filter it out. On the other side, we have the silicone seal.

So the silicone seal here is gonna help out, make sure it is all sealed up when you go to set it in place so that nothing can get in through the sides. The diamond plating on this end, it's gonna prevent it from moving at all when you go to set it in the place. So it's not gonna be shifting around. It kinda acts as like a back brace or just something to keep some kind of structure within the filter. An air filter is a common thing to tack on when you take your car into the shop.

You can do it that way but it really isn't that hard to install yourself. And you can just follow along and see how I did it and then you can do it on your own. First off on our installation, we're gonna come here to the air box on the passenger side, underneath the hood. We're gonna undo these bolts here, all along the outside, cause this is what we're gonna have to lift up and get the air filter out of. So come here with the Impact 10 millimeter and then just undo all these bolts. Now, they don't completely come out. They stay stuck in there so that way you can't lose them. We get'em on all four corners. And I think there's two more towards the front as well. Had to get an extension through this side over here cause I wanna go around these components. Didn't want to try and force the Impact down there and break anything. So with that one loose, we'll get all four corners and then. Let's see. Oh, I missed one up here. So looks like it's four corners, there's one up front, I'm guessing there's gonna be one back here too, to get. Once you undo all those bolts, this part is a little tricky. You kinda have to push it out towards the driver's side because there's a bar here that's gonna keep it from just lifting up and off. So we are able to push it out and up. You don't get a whole lot of clearance cause I don't wanna disconnect anything else back there but we can still get in here and pull out the air filter. So this is what it looks like when we've removed it. You can see it does have a little bit of dust and grime in there. So it would be good to replace it. It's not as bad as I've seen. Sometimes they get really dark, you can see it all coated there. That's after years and years of use. This is still a fairly new truck so not too bad, but that's we wanna put a new one in anyway, so that's what we're gonna do. Now we got the new air filter. Clearly see that it hasn't been used yet. There's no grime on there at all. So we're just gonna put that back into place lifting up on our air box and setting this in. Make sure you put the side with the grating up top. Now with the new one put in place, just gonna go ahead and run those bolts back down. And with that, it's installed. Close your hood and get on the road. Well, I think that does it.
