The fan clutch is an important component of most belt-driven fan systems. It ensures that that the fan is engaged at low speeds or high temperatures to provide adequate airflow to your vehicle's cooling system. When sufficient airflow is present, as is usually the case when your vehicle travels at high speeds, the clutch will disengage the fan to save on power, removing that additional load from your engine so that it may run more efficiently.
A thermal fan clutch relies on a thermostatic coil to read the under-hood temperature. When the temperature reaches a set level, the fan will engage to provide additional airflow for the cooling system. If the temperature drops to a set level, the fan will then disengage to save on power and decrease the load against the engine, thus allowing your vehicle to run more efficiently.

Today we'll be taking a look at the Derale Thermal Fan Clutch. This is going to help your engine and fan system work more effectively to cool everything down whenever you're at low speeds, or working at higher temperatures. That's going to help to make sure that everything is working properly, and your vehicle is functioning as efficiently as possible.We'll get our clutch assembly here. This is going to attach to our fan system. That's going to, again, help to cool everything down. Especially whenever you're towing, you are going to be taxing your engine more, so you want to make sure that everything stays nice and cool.It comes with four specially heat-treated bolts to get this attached to the fan.
Whenever you're attaching that, you also want to inspect your fan for any kind of damage to the blades. Any missing or damaged rivets. And if that's the case, you'll want to replace that fan as well.If you do need to replace it, you can find some fans here at etrailer.com for your application. This fan clutch fits several different vehicles, including the 1983-1988 Ford Ranger with 2-liter I-4 engine.
