Trailer with Marker Lights that Blink When Turn Signals are Activated

Question:

Trailer Type - Big Tex Year Model - 2000. Hydraulic over Electric Brakes. When I have the marker lights on and turn the signal lights on or actuate the brakes the marker lights flash. We have rewired the complete trailer, changed all lights, grounded all lights to trailer, checked ground on vehicle, And even changed the hydraulic motor. Still having problem. What else could be causing this problem?

Take a close look at the trailer connector. If you can see any green corrosion on the pins or sockets, there is a good chance that the corrosion has spread to the interior of the connector. This could be causing the brake light and turn signals to bleed over into the running light circuit.

What is occurring sounds a lot like a grounding problem though. Make sure that those ground connections are made to metal that is not corroded. Is this a trailer with a tilting bed? If so, try running a jumper from the tilting portion of the trailer to the fixed portion. Tilting trailers can be a problem, as the ground passes through the pivot point. After a few years, these pivot points can loosen a bit, and not provide a continuous ground connection. Make sure that if the lamps are mounted to a portion of the trailer that is not directly connected to the trailer frame, that a wire is run from the fixture to the trailer frame.
