How To Choose the Correct Size RV Charge Converter for a Trailer When Starting from Scratch

Question:

I just bought an enclosed cargo trailer and want to wire both 110 and 12v. My 110 will be powered either by shore power or generator. I might possibly add solar panels to it in the future. Can you recommend the correct converter for this application?

In order to choose the correct size converter for a trailer you need to know the load requirements i.e. how much power you'll be pulling through the trailer. This is why we recommend always going with the same size equipped from the factory. That said, if you're starting from scratch you can use a rough estimate to get started which is 50% of the battery bank capacity. For example, if you have a 70 amp hour battery/bank you would be best to start with a 35 amp converter like the Progressive Dynamics RV Power Control Center with AC/DC Panel and Converter/Smart Charger part # PD4135K.

I have attached our full list of panel/converter options below.
