Troubleshooting Tailgate Latch Not Releasing With Lock LH-003 Installed

Question:

As far as I can see in side the the tailgate, I have the lock installed correctly. Once on, the gate will not release. What can I do to correct it?

The Integrated OEM Tailgate Lock - 1999-2007 GM Full Size Pickups # LH-003 prevent the latch from pulling in when the handle is pulled. The photos you show already have the sides pulled in pretty far so they are not able to move to release the outside latches. You may need to shorten the rods or increase spring tension on the rods to get the tailgate to work properly with this lock. Based on your photos there is no room for the rods to move to release the latches when you pull on the handle.
