2018 Ford Edge Sport Towing Capacity

Question:
According to the factory this particular model and year is the only one rated for 2,000 pounds. All other years and models are rated for 3,500 pounds. Is there anyone out there successfully towing more than 3,000 pounds with their 2018 Edge Sport? I have a boat that weighs 3100 pounds and want to know if the vehicle can handle it. after much research, I think I am onto something about the trailer sway control. All other Edge's have the trailer sway control except the Edge Sport. Hmmm, can this be added onto the aftermarket tow package to compensate?

The 2009-2018 Ford Edge Sport can only tow 2,000 lbs safely. This is not due to sway control lacking but is the rating based on engine, transmission, frame, and suspension. The 2019 and newer models have a higher rating of 3,500 lbs.
Unfortunately there is not a safe way to tow your 3,100 lb boat with your 2018 Ford Edge Sport and no aftermarket product will increase that 2,000 lb capacity. For example, the Draw-Tite hitch receiver # 75234 is rated for 4,500 lbs but it will not allow you to tow more than the 2,000 lbs your vehicle is rated for.
