Best Way to Carry Long Canoe With 2017 Ford F-150 SuperCrew Cab

Updated 05/22/2020 | Published 05/20/2020

Question:

Hi, Im looking at the best overall solution for carrying a long canoe 18 foot on my 2017 Ford F150 Limited which has a 5.5 foot bed. I dont have any type of roof rack or hitch attachment at the moment so Im starting from scratch. It would be ideal to carry two canoes but throughout my searches it doesnt seem like there are racks wide enough to support this but maybe Im wrong. Please let me know what you think is the best option for a long canoe whether its on the roof or combination of a hitch attachment and roof rack. Thanks!

So when I think of the best way to carry a canoe (or other equipment), value goes a long way, and I think the best value for your 2017 Ford F-150 SuperCrew Cab is going to be with just a roof rack and canoe carrier. A pair of canoes are going to be too wide to fit, but you can absolutely carry a singe, 18 foot canoe with no problem. First, let's start with the roof rack I recommend for your F-1500, which consists of:

- Yakima JetStream Crossbars # Y00426 (Black) or # Y00429 (Silver)
- BaseLine Towers for Yakima Crossbars # Y00146
- BaseClip Fit Kit # Y06122
- Same Key System Lock Cores (Optional) # Y07204

I have added a link to a video review of a Yakima rack on a 2018 F-150, and the accompanying photo is of the rack on this truck. This is a very strong, durable and quiet roof rack with long 60 inch crossbars that is going to allow you to carry your 18 foot canoe with the Yakima KeelOver Rooftop Canoe Carrier with Tie-Downs # Y04069.

The KeelOver comes with heavy-duty tie-downs which make it sit securely on top of your F-150. The addition of this rack and carrier are truly the best value and best way for you to carry a canoe with your truck.
