Expert Reply:

The amount of cooling on your transmission fluid when using the Derale 16-Pass Electra-Cool Remote Transmission Cooler Kit w/ Fan, part # D13900 will depend on your 2002 Chevrolet Silverado, the mounting location, and the ambient air temperature.

Most transmission coolers, when properly selected and installed correctly will drop the fluid temperature at least 20 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit. Dropping the fluid temperature by 20 degrees Fahrenheit will potentially double the life of the fluid.

You cannot cool transmission fluid too much so the largest cooler available, that will fit, is the best choice.

The # D13900 cooler, you have referenced, has a 650-CFM reversible tornado fan that uses a 180-degree in-line thermostat to control the airflow across the tube and fin exchanger. It will maintain a transmission fluid temperature of 180 degrees. The ideal operating temperature range for transmission fluid is 160 to 200 degrees.

I am including links to a couple of FAQ pages that will give you information on transmission coolers.
