Best RV Awning Add-On for Camping in Windy Areas

Question:

What about if the wind gets up? How much of a wind can it handle? And how easy is it to dismantle when the wind gets up?

I was able to reach out to my contact at Lippert and they weren't able to provide a set wind speed rating that the Solera Family Room for 14' RV Awnings # LC362229 will withstand. They did mentioned that it should not have any problems in normal wind conditions less than 20-25 MPH if that is any consolation. The tan body panels are made from a heavy duty nylon cloth and the screen sections will allow a good deal of wind to pass through it when open, but I can see how during sustained windy conditions it might start acting more like a sail and cause some damage to the awning- so your concerns are extremely valid. What you'll need to watch for is when the pitch arm on the awning begins to start wobbling quite a bit, the room will need to be taken down and stored.

Since it does have some solid paneling, if you frequently camp in areas with heavy winds, you may be better served going with the Solera Screen Room # LC362217 which has a design that is much less susceptible to wind since it is an entirely screened off structure. Again, they did not have a wind rating on this product, but since it is a fully screened room without the heavy nylon panels it's going to be much less susceptible to sustained winds than the Family Room.
