2017 jeep renegade desert hawk with lower rock guards below the doors. Do the rock guards have to be taken off to install running boards. Can they be put back after installation.

Carr's Custom-Fit Super Hoop Side Steps # CARR121241 do not fit your 2017 Jeep Renegade but the Aries running boards that do fit this vehicle appear on the linked page. Aries makes these 5-inch running boards in black, part # AA2061023, and in silver as part # AA2051023. A video on this silver step kit is linked too.
I checked with my contact at Aries about the fit with your Desert Hawk's rock guards and he advised that there are no known compatibility issues so either of these Aries running boards should fit fine with your rock guards.
