Best 175/80-13 Trailer Tires for 24 Foot Long Travel Trailer

Question:

Looking to use SLM40031 while towing camper. Camper tires are 50PSI. Would I use tow vehicle 12v and if so does vehicle need to be running or could I plug into 12v source on the side of my camper I have 2 battery system w solar panel. If I use camper 12v should that be disconnected from tow vehicle at time of use? Thanks in advance.

The reason your service manager recommended a wheel and tire combo for you is because by the time you pay to have the new tires mounted and balanced you will be spending about the same amount of money as a new wheel/tire assembly that is already mounted and semi balanced for you. This is a smart move and what I recommend for you as the bead seats on wheels can become corroded over time and cause leaks.

In regards to quality, the Kenda and Westlake brands you mentioned are good options but they are inferior to Taskmaster in my opinion and experience in the industry. For replacement, I recommend using the Provider ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire w/ 13" White Wheel part # TA43RR.

These tires have a load range C rating, speed rating M (81 MPH), and a radial ply. They also have automotive grade tread which is what makes them one of the best in regards to quality.

I forgot to ask is there any advantage, since I am replacing all tires, to go from a load C to a D tire? It was something my RV service manager said to look into. If there are any advantages does Taskmaster have this same tire with the Load D rating?

I would not recommend upgrading to load range D tires if you are under the weight capacity of the load range C tires that you have now. The reason for this is because when trailer tires are filled to the maximum psi listed on the sidewall, they need a certain amount of weight in order to get the best contact patch and wear pattern. If the tires were too far overrated then they would wear faster on the inside and would give less grip on the road.

TheGoodyear Tire Inflator - Analog # GY94FR requires a 12 volt outlet rated for at least 15 amps. It does not matter if you use this with the 12 volt outlet on the trailer or vehicle so long as they are both rated for 15 amps. According to the owner's manual, the engine must be turned off while using the inflator. You don't need to unplug the trailer connector if using it with the 12 volt outlet on the trailer.
