Thule Rooftop Cargo Box Fits on 2014 BMW X3 with Factory Crossbars

Question:
I have a BMW X3 2014 SAV with flush rails and two factory BMW side to side cross bars already attached. Will the XL be too long for the car? Do you recommend I size down to the Thule Motion XT L? L: 77 x 36 x 17 in XL: 84.5 x 36 x 17 in I believe the Thule Motion XT will fit to the BMW factory bars BMW X3 F25 Genuine Factory OEM 82712338614 Profile Roof Rack Cross Bars 2013 - 2016. Thanks!

For your 2014 BMW X3 with flush roof rails and two factory BMW side-to-side cross bars the cargo box Thule recommends is their Motion XT cargo box, either the gloss black # TH629706 or the gloss titanium finish version # TH629707. These will fit without hatch interference. Just make sure your bar dimensions do not exceed the maximum, 3-1/2-inches wide x 1-11/16-inches tall, and that their center-to-center spread is within the range from 23-5/8-inches to 33-inches.
Also note that your X3's roof weight capacity should not be exceeded by the combined weight of your chosen box and its loaded cargo. The Motion XT boxes weigh 42-lbs empty.
You might also consider an accessory folding step to make it easier to get to the box for loading and unloading. I like the fully-assembled, compact and lightweight folding Telesteps step # TE97FR
which gives you a foot of extra reach.
