Recommended Trailer Hitch And Cargo Carrier For Golf Clubs On 1990 Mazda Miata Convertible

I have a convertibale 1990 Mazda Miata. I like to mount a carrier or racks on the back trunk to carry my golf bag 2 bags will be good. Do you have the rack or carrier that fits? Thanks, Gary

We do not have a trunk-mount cargo carrier that would be able to handle your golf bag or bags. The only solution I have for your Miata convertible is to install a trailer hitch and use a hitch mounted carrier.

The trailer hitch I recommend is part # C11729. This is a Class l hitch and it has a 1-1/4 inch receiver opening. A note from Curt says all non-trailer loads - bike racks, cargo carriers and so forth - should be supported with stabilizing straps like part # 18050. Failure to properly support these loads will void your hitch warranty.

I then recommend a hitch mounted cargo carrier like part # C18145. This is a 17-inch x 46-inch carrier that can handle the golf bags with no problem. to secure the golf bags in the carrier I recommend the Erickson Bungee Cords, part # EM06623. This set contains 12 cords and ties to help secure a variety of items.
