Replacement Wheel and Tire for Trailer with 155/80R12

Updated 01/12/2016 | Published 01/10/2016

Question:

I have a small trailer with 4 bolt rims and currently have 155/80R12 tires and rims. I am looking for a spare tire and would like to know if this tire and rim will fit and work. I use the trailer to pull my ATV and equipment that weights about 500 pounds. I travel on both dirt roads and highways with speeds up to 70mph. Using it as a spare it would not see these conditions for long periods of time if ever I hope. Will this tire work for my needs?

A 155/80-12 is not a trailer tire size or at least not common. The closest match is a 145/80-12 such as # AM10130 for a load range D rated for 1,220 pounds at 65 psi. Or # AM10140 rated for 1,520 pounds at 80 psi.

What letters are in front of the tire size? If it is the letter P then it is a passenger vehicle tire and should not be used on a trailer. It needs to be an ST trailer tire instead.

For a rim with the tire size I mentioned mounted to it with a 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern you would want the part # AM31208. This is rated for 65 MPH. I can't recommend you exceed this figure.
