Hello, Once properly fitted, can the rack be removed by loosening just one side? Thanks! 2012 Focus HB

To remove the Rhino Rack part # RR78MR that you referenced you would need to loosen both sides of the rack as the clamp securely attaches both sides of the rack to the roof of the vehicle.
Check out the review video I attached that details the rack and how it installs and removes.
This rack has been confirmed to fit your 2012 Ford Focus hatchback so it should work very well for you. Rhino Rack makes great roof racks at a fraction of the cost of some of the more expensive brands, but the quality is there so they are the best buy in my opinion.
