Thule Roof Rack Review - 2014 Nissan Rogue

Today on our 2014 Nissan Rogue we're going to test fit the Thule Crossroads roof rack system. We're using the 50" square bars. Those are part number THLB50, and the 450 foot packs or the Crossroads foot packs, the appropriate part number is TH450. Now we are using the 50" bars but with the setup the way it is you can go as large as you'd like with the width. It's a preference matter. Some people really like when they hang off so they can put some accessories here on the end. That's going to be up to you.

Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch Installation - 2014 Nissan Rogue

Today on our 2014 Nissan Rouge, we'll be installing the DrawTite hitch, part number 75902. To begin our install, we'll first need to remove the fascia panel on each side. To remove these fascia panels, we'll remove the push pin fasteners, three in total, and then a screw out center push pin fastener towards the front of the fascia. Note, there are panels on both sides and we're removing both. These fasteners are the same on each side. Now to remove the push pin fasteners, we're going to pry out on the center of the fastener with a flat blade screwdriver and then remove the fastener completely. To remove the screw out center push pin fastener, at the front of the fascia, you'll have to have a gentle hand as you screw the center out and then remove the fascia. With our fascia out, we'll set it aside for re-installation later. Now, move over to the driver's side and repeat the same process. Now, with our panels out of the way, it'll open up the frame rail. However, on the passenger side, we'll still need to remove the tow hook, which is secured by a total of four fasteners.

  • Does a Wire Have to Be Run to the Battery to Install the Curt Trailer Harness # C56033
  • We understand your laziness, routing a wire from the rear of a vehicle to the battery seems a bit involved considering how easy the rest of the wiring harness part # C56033 install is. But you have to do it. If you don't run the power to the battery you could overdraw the circuit you attach it to and blow the fuse or even potentially damage the circuit. I attached an FAQ article to the right with some tips on routing the power wire that you should find informative.

  • How to Get a Trailer VIN if the VIN is Missing or Cant be Read
  • If you have ever registered the trailer before then the DMV should have it on file and you could get the VIN from them. Otherwise you will have to have a highway patrol officer inspect the trailer and assign a VIN. You might need to contact your local DMV to make sure this practice is done in your state. I am not sure what the laws are in Australia but I am assuming you need the VIN in order to ship the trailer to Australia and not necessarily to register the trailer in Australia.

  • Best Roof Rack for a 2014 Nissan Rogue with Side Rails and Panoramic Roof
  • The Thule AeroBlade Edge system, # TH7502-TH7502, is going to be your best option. (Please note that the old fit said TH7503-TH7502 but the correct fit is TH7502-TH7502.) These are pretty much the best crossbars on the market right now. They are quiet, create less drag than other bars, and they look good, dare I say sweet. Companies make products to fit the wider bars so you wouldn't have to use a bunch of different adapters for most products. The Thule AeroBlade bars are 3-1/8 inches...

  • Bike Rack Suitable for Use on 2014 Nissan Rogue With Class I Hitch
  • A light-duty Class I hitch is capable of supporting the weight of only 2 bikes (regardless of the rack's actual capacity). The linked article on hitch classes will explain in more detail. The Saris Thelma 3-Bike Rack # SA4239B that you referenced does have the same 1-1/4-inch size shank as Class I carriers but this is a Class II rack that will only fit properly in a Class II hitch. There is no 3-bike rack that can safely be used in a Class I hitch. The best option for carrying 3...

  • Using a 2-Inch Hitch Bike Carrier on a 1-1/4-Inch Class I Hitch on 2014 Nissan Rogue
  • A light-duty Class I hitch such as the dealer-installed unit on your Rogue has a limitation of 2-bike capacity, regardless of the rack's actual capacity. A hitch adapter like the MaxxTow # MT70032 that you referenced will not allow you to safely use your 2-inch bike rack in your 1-1/4-inch hitch because all adapters like this have the unavoidable side-effect of cutting hitch capacity in HALF. So, your 200-lb-rated Class I hitch would have only a 100-lb tongue weight capacity if used with...

  • Hitch Recommendation for 2014 Nissan Rogue for Use with Thule Doubletrack Bike Carrier # TH990XT
  • The Thule Doubletrack Platform-Style 2 Bike Carrier # TH990XT is an excellent choice in a platform-style hitch-mount rack. It combines sturdy build with a limited lifetime warranty and includes locks for both the rack itself and your loaded bikes. Since this is a substantial product (it weighs about 45-lbs without your bikes) I suggest you go for a high-capacity Class III hitch. The most popular such unit among owners of the Nissan Rogue is the Curt # C13168 which has a tongue weight...

  • Hitch Recommendation for a 2014 Nissan Rogue SV Select
  • Yes, the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch # 75902 has been confirmed to fit the standard 2014 Nissan Rogue and the Rogue Select so it would work for you. For trailer wiring I would recommend the Curt Trailer Wiring Harness part # C56033. Check out the install video I attached. For ball mounts I recommend the etrailer Ball Mount Kit # 989900. It comes with 2 ball mounts, 2 balls, a hitch pin with clip, and a carrying bag.

  • How to Mount Hollywood Racks Over The Top Bike Rack # HRF2 on 2014 Nissan Rougue
  • There are a few different ways to make the upper connection of the # HRF2, as shown in the photo I've edited for you. If the seam where the hatch meets the roof is metal, the hooks can be used. If the hooks would need to attach to the plastic spoiler, the hatch anchors which would shut in the hatch would be used. The straps can also connect to the side rails or crossbars of a roof rack. This is shown in greater detail in the instructions I've linked to. The hatch should not be opened...

  • Cargo Basket for a 2014 Nissan Rogue with Factory Side Rails
  • Nearly all cargo baskets require crossbars to mount. Surco does make a basket, called the Safari basket, but they only fit up to the 2012 Nissan Rogue and not up to 2014. In order to mount a basket you are going to have to have crossbars. The most economical option that fits your 2014 Rogue is a Yakima system using the RailGrabs, # Y00138 and crossbars # Y00408. With this system installed the recommended bar spread (center to center distance between the bars) is 38 inches. Or you...

  • Will Hidden Hitch 2-Inch Class III Hitch # HH87663 Fit 2013 Nissan Rogue Carryover
  • For your Nissan Rogue, a 2013 model carried over into 2014, Hidden Hitch 2-Inch Class III Hitch # HH87663 is a correct fit. This hitch will bolt on using included hardware and requires no drilling or welding. The written installation instructions are linked. If you will be towing and need a wiring harness you can use part # 118480 from Tow Ready, which is a custom-fit harness that does not require you to cut into the wiring in your Rogue. It installs by simply plugging in at the vehicle...

  • Which Trailer Hitch Sticks Out the Furthest on a 2014 Nissan Rogue
  • You are correct, the Hidden Hitch trailer hitch # HH87663 and Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 75902 do stick out further than the Curt trailer hitches for your 2014 Nissan Rogue. On both hitches, they stick out 2-1/4 inches further. Both hitches do have the same dimensions. And on the Yakima DoubleDown Ace 5, # Y02452, it measures 9 inches from the center of the hitch pin hole to the back of the upright mast. What you can do is measure from the furthest back hitch attachment point on the...

  • Will Hitch Extender 45791 and Anti-Rattle Lock 63232 Fit w/Curt Trailer Hitch for 2014 Nissan Rogue
  • Yes, the Curt hitch extender # C45791 and anti-rattle device # 63232 are compatible with each other and with Curt trailer hitch # C13168. Please keep in mind that the use of the extender will reduce the tongue weight capacity of the trailer hitch by 50 percent. That will reduce the hitch you have on your 2014 Nissan Rouge to 175 pounds.

  • Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver Recessed Too Far Under 2014 Nissan Rogue to Use Thule T2 Bike Rack
  • The issue is that if hitch manufactures extended the receiver more then you would have the same problem as you would when using a hitch extender. It would put too much stress on the hitch and could cause damage to the hitch or vehicle. Draw-Tite hitch # 75902 extends out a little further. Approximately 2-1/4 inches further than on the Curt hitch. And on the Curt hitch the hitch pin hole to rear bumper measurement is 8-1/4 inches. On the Draw-Tite hitch that measurement would be approximately...

  • What is the Purpose of the Underbody Panels on 2014 Nissan Rogue that Get Removed to Install Hitch
  • The purpose of the underbody panels on modern vehicles including your 2014 Nissan Rogue is to aid in decreasing wind resistance while traveling at highway speeds to increase gas mileage and to give a cleaner look underneath the car. Some of those panels will need to be permanently removed in order to install the Curt Hitch part # C13168 that you referenced. Honestly though, you should not see any change in your fuel mileage. I attached an install video for this hitch. For trailer...

  • What is the Depth to Rear of Vehicle With Draw-Tite Class III Hitch # 75902 on a 2014 Nissan Rogue
  • We have not had the chance to install the Draw-Tite Class III Trailer Hitch, # 75902, on a Nissan Rogue yet, but after comparing the dimensions of this hitch to the Curt Class III Hitch, # C13168, I can tell you that the receiver of the Draw-Tite hitch is 2-1/4 inches longer than the receiver of the Curt hitch. This means that the receiver opening will sit 2-1/4 inches closer to rear edge of the bumper when it is installed. This would provide better clearance for hitch mounted accessories...

  • How to Determine if a Bike Rack will Have Clearance 2014 Nissan Rogue with a Hidden Hitch
  • I spoke to my contact at Hidden Hitch and she gave me a way to figure out the dimension you are looking for. If you measure from the rearmost attach point on your frame for the hitch back 8-1/4 inches you will know where the hitch pin will be in relation to your rear bumper. We haven't had the chance to install this hitch on a vehicle yet so we have not had the chance to take the measurement you requested. Check out the picture I attached that shows this measurement.

  • Hitch Extender to Use a Bike Rack With a 2014 Nissan Rogue and Curt Class III Trailer Hitch
  • The use of an extender is going to reduce the trailer hitch tongue weight capacity by 50 percent. For Curt trailer hitch # C13168 for your 2014 Nissan Rogue that means that the capacity will be reduced from 350 pounds to 175 pounds. The combined weight of the bike rack and bikes cannot exceed 175 pounds. To determine if an extender is even needed you can measure from the center of the hitch pin hole on the bike rack back to the nearest part of the rack that would make contact with the...

  • Can 12V Outlet In Rear Of 2014 Nissan Rogue Be Used For Wiring Harness Power
  • We do not recommend using the 12 volt power outlet in the rear area of your 2014 Nissan Rogue when connecting a circuit protected wiring harness like part # C56033 because it has a higher rated fused circuit that could allow more power to be drawn through the wiring harness and potentially damage either the harness or the vehicle. This harness has not been tested with the installation using the rear power source and could void the warranty. I have attached a link to an installation video...

What you can do is use the instructions that I have linked to find the rear most attachment point of the hitch on the vehicle. (The hole furthest back on the vehicle.) Measure from the center of that point straight back 6-1/8 inches. This is approximately where the center of the hitch pin hole will be. Then measure from that point straight back to the distance needed to clear...

  • 2 Inch Curt Hitch Recommendation for a 2014 Nissan Rogue
  • Curt recommends the use of the stabilizer strap like part # 18050 with all of their 1-1/4 in hitches and some of the 2 inch hitches, but not the 2 inch hitch available for your 2014 Nissan Rogue. The Curt Hitch part # C13168 that you referenced would be a great hitch for you since you would rather not use a stabilizer strap, and because a 2 inch hitch has more capacity and has more options for hitch accessories than a 1-1/4 inch hitch. This hitch should do very well carrying a 2 bike...
