Trailer Wiring Harness Installation - 2014 Mazda CX-5

Okay, today on this 2014 Mazda CX5, we're going to install part number C56011 from Curt. This is a Curt T connector, vehicle-wiring harness with a 4 pole flat. Now we're going to install our wire harness. We need to get inside the vehicle so we will go ahead and open the back hatch and we'll go ahead and remove the floor coverings, as well as the threshold. It looks like there's two plastic fasteners. Okay, we'll go ahead and remove the rivet right here, this plastic rivet, so we will pull out the center and then the rest of it comes right out. It's just a steady pull straight up, will release it from those snaps. There it is. One is stuck so we'll just use a trim-panel tool to remove it. Out next step is to work with the side panel here, so we're going to undo this fastener and just pull it out a little bit so we'll get some extra working room to work our wires inside. It might be a good idea to go ahead and remove the phone core support inside as well.

Today on our 2014 Mazda Cx5 we're going to be test fitting the Weathertech floor mats for the cargo area. This is in color black with part number Wt40553. We'll grab our new Weathertech liner, place it in, and as you can see if contours perfectly and it it just kind of fits itself into place. Around the perimeter of the liner is a nice raised lip to help trap in any types of spills or materials that you don't want getting on your carpet. These mats are specially designed to fit the contour of the cargo area of our Cx5, so you can see here how it contours nicely around the shape or perimeter of the cargo area. We also have the nice channels. You can see here that these are designed to help trap in any type of dirt or moisture that you may trap in.

To start off our install, we're going to have to open up the back hatch and get access to the wiring behind the tail lights, so we're going to have to remove some interior body panels to do this. First off, we'll remove the floor coverings to get down to the spare tire. Next we'll go ahead and remove yourthreshold. Next we'll go ahead and remove the foam inserts around the spare tire. Now to remove the threshold, there will be two plastic fasteners, one on each end, we have to remove. Working from the bottom and prying from the sides, we'll go ahead and work it free, then we can go ahead and loosen up the side panels. All right, today, on our 2014 Mazda CX-5 we're going to install the 3D Kagu Custom Auto Floor Liner with MAXpider grip, part number L1MZ03821509. All right, to start off our install, we need to remove the original floor mats that are on the floor because we need to work with just the bare carpet. We'll take those out of the way. We'll take new Kagu Floor Liner and put it into place. We put it into place and you can see how it's all a one piece unit that goes all the way across. It covers the hump in the center and it also has room and matches up evenly to the center console. It has a raised edge that goes all the way around.

  • Trunk Mounted Bike Rack Recommendation for a 2014 Mazda CX-5
  • There are several trunk mounted bike racks that are confirmed to fit your 2014 Mazda CX-5. See the link to the right to see them all. The one I like and recommend the most is the Thule Raceway bike rack part # TH9001XT. What makes this rack far superior to the others is the attachment system. It uses 4 retractable coated steel cables to attach to the vehicle rather than 6 nylon straps like other racks. This makes installation quick and easy and the cables also last longer. The...

  • Replacement Hardware Recommendation for a Curt Hitch part # C13127 on a 2015 Mazda CX-5
  • The good new is the Curt Hitch part # C13127 is confirmed to also fit your 2015 Mazda CX-5. The not so good news is that hitch installation hardware is designed for one-time-use so you would need to also replace all of the installation hardware in order for your hitch to still be under warranty. To order replacement hardware you will need part # RHK. You will want to go to the # RHK product page, select Curt as your hitch manufacturer, and then enter # C13127 as your hitch part number...

  • Will Thule Evolution 1600 Cargo Box Clear Antenna and Hatch on 2014 Mazda CX5
  • The Thule Evolution cargo box has been discontinued since 2007 so I do not have any fit information on it. But I can tell you how to figure it out. First, there were two types of Evolution cargo box. One had just drilled holes for the mounting feet and the other had slots with more adjustability. In either case you will measure from the center of the forward most mounting foot position straight back to the furthest part at the back of the box. Then with the front crossbar as far...

  • I attached a picture that shows the arm on the shank of the Thule Apex Swing Away Bike Rack part # TH9027 that will snap onto the hitch pin and once you tighten the anti-rattle knob you will be able to lock the rack with the included key to the hitch of your 2014 Mazda CX-5. • From the top of the receiver opening on the hitch to the bottom of the shank at the very end of the rack it measures approximately 5 inches. Clearance to the ground is going to be different on every vehicle so if you measure from the top of your receiver opening down to the ground and then add 5 inches that is where the Sport Rider, # HR1400, would be. If you wanted to, you could use a locking pin to attach the two halves of the rack. It just comes with a pin. It would be hard to...

  • Is a License Plate Relocation Bracket Required when Using a Trailer Hitch Mount Cargo Carrier
  • If the cargo loaded on Curt Cargo carrier # C18153 come up to the bottom of the license plate on your 2014 Mazda CX-5 but do not block it then there shouldn't be any problems. You can add a license plate bracket to the back of this carrier using # LP15SB but you would have to drilling into the carrier. Otherwise you could just zip tie the plate to the back of the carrier but you would have to cut it off every time you were finished and it is not as secure as an actual bracket.

  • Weight of Curt Trailer hitch Mount Cargo Carrier 18153 and 18151
  • Curt trailer hitch mount cargo carrier # C18153 has a shipping weight of 71 pounds. Subtract about 3 pounds for packaging and you are looking at 68 pounds. Carrier # C18151 has a shipping weight of 58 pounds so 55 pounds for the carrier. Someone would have to come along with a couple of wrenches to steel the trailer portion because it swivels up or down on a bolt. But then they would just have this heavy tray to lug around and wouldn't be able to use it in a vehicle because the tray...

  • I know you said you didn't want to put cargo on the roof of your 2014 Mazda CX-5, but that is realistically your only option to carry a bike rack and additional cargo outside of your vehicle. For a 3 bike rack I would recommend the Thule Helium 3 Aero Bike Rack part # TH9043. This is a great rack loaded with all the bells and whistles plus it only weighs 27 lbs. Check out the review video I attached. If you're looking for a Class III hitch compatible platform rack I would recommend...

The hitch I recommend is Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch # 87623 which is a custom fit for your vehicle and is the most popular option for the Mazda CX-5. • Your 2014 Mazda CX-5 can be fitted with two sizes/classes of trailer hitch, either a 1-1/4-inch Class II or a 2-inch Class III type, but since you are looking into 4-bike platform carriers I will trust that you have a higher-capacity 2-inch hitch. If not, please let me know. One important consideration for any hitch rack is the clearance needed for it to safely clear the rear-most part of your vehicle. In this case that will be the bumper. Bike racks offer varying amounts of clearance...

A far more important consideration for your application with a 2-inch bike carrier is the hitch's tongue weight capacity, which is 525-lbs for a 2-inch Class III hitch and 300- or 350-lbs for a 1-1/4-inch Class II hitch, depending...
