2014 Mazda CX-5 Questions and Answers

  • Trailer Hitch Comparison for a 2014 Mazda CX-5 Hidden Hitch # 87686 versus Curt # 13127
  • I have provided a link to the hitches that are confirmed as a fit for your vehicle. When comparing the Hidden Hitch Class III trailer hitch # 87686 to the Curt # C13127 Class III they are very similar, and the weight capacities are the same. I have included a photo of the two hitches installed, and yes the Hidden Hitch option is recessed a little bit more under the vehicle than the Curt option. This is likely due to the profile of the hitch, and mounting style. The Hidden Hitch option...

  • Choosing Between 1-1/4-Inch Class II Hitch and 2-Inch Class III Hitch for 2014 Mazda CX-5
  • The actual weight difference between the three Class III hitches for your CX-5 and the one 1-1/4-inch Class II hitch # C12080 is the same 2-lb difference as between their shipping weights. The weight of the packaging for both hitch classes is essentially identical. A far more important consideration for your application with a 2-inch bike carrier is the hitch's tongue weight capacity, which is 525-lbs for a 2-inch Class III hitch and 300- or 350-lbs for a 1-1/4-inch Class II hitch, depending...

  • Platform Bike Rack Recommendation for Best Ground Clearance
  • The rack that would give you the best ground clearance and bike wheel protection would be the Saris Freedom part # SA4414B. This rack has an angled shank that angles up soon after the shank exits the hitch opening. The bikes are also loaded higher and higher as you get further away from the back of the vehicle, whereas the other racks don't have that feature. Where you will see ground clearance issue the most will be the portion of the rack that exits the hitch opening. On the # HR1400...

  • Curt trailer hitch mount cargo carrier # C18153 has a shipping weight of 71 pounds. Subtract about 3 pounds for packaging and you are looking at 68 pounds. Carrier # C18151 has a shipping weight of 58 pounds so 55 pounds for the carrier. Someone would have to come along with a couple of wrenches to steel the trailer portion because it swivels up or down on a bolt. But then they would just have this heavy tray to lug around and wouldn't be able to use it in a vehicle because the tray...

  • Capacity of Hitch and Bike Rack for 2014 Mazda CX-5
  • One of the main advantages of a hitch mount rack is the higher possible capacity (trunk mount racks carry a maximum of 3 bikes) while hitch mount racks can accommodate up to 5 bikes. You already touched on the other advantage, the hitch mount rack does not come into contact with the painted finish of the vehicle, therefore the rack cannot dent or otherwise mar the finish. • Saris makes a good rack and the Freedom SuperClamp # SA4026, is no exception. We only recently started carrying Saris racks which is why you do not see a lot of information presently on our site. It is a newer rack in the Saris lineup coming on the heels of the regular Freedom rack # SA4414B. The main difference is that the Freedom SuperClamp holds the bikes at the wheels which is the best way to carry bikes with carbon frames and/or wheels and bikes with step through frames. • Recommended Trailer Hitch And Trailer Wiring Harness For 2014 Mazda CX-5
  • The installation of a trailer hitch on your CX-5 is an easy bolt-on and requires no drilling into the frame. I recommend the Draw-Tite Max-Frame Trailer Hitch Receiver, part # 75217 for your Maxda. I recommend this trailer hitch because the installation is very similar to the Curt Hitch, part # C13127, but no stabilizing strap is required when using the hitch for non-towing accessories.
