Is a Slider 5th Wheel Trailer Hitch Required for a Heartland Big Country Trailer on a 2008 Dodge Ram

Question:

1. If I buy the Heartland with 88degree turn, do I need a slider? Is there a better option? Want heavy duty despite gross weight trailer=14k 2. Are there advantages to mounting elec plug in truck bed wall? 3. How much is approx total cost of RP30074 under bed vs regular rails? parts/install

The Heartland Big Country 5th wheel trailers have an extended pinbox and a recessed and rounded overhang at the bottom so it is possible but not guaranteed that you will not have to have a slider. However, I still recommend a slider for a few reasons. First, you never know what you might tow and you do not want to be caught in a jam where you will need a slider hitch.

Second, depending on the length of your short bed, you may still need a slider hitch to safely make 90 degree turns.

The current cost of the underbed installation kit # RP30074, or any part, can be found on the product page and I have included a link to the installation details for you to view. If you determine you can install it yourself, it will take 4 or more hours to install.

The benefit of having an in-bed 7-Way is that you do not have to worry about using an extension that could pull out. The connection point is right there near the hitch. You will also free up the 7-Way at the rear of the truck, and it plugs in line with the existing trailer wiring for a clean, professional appearance.

There are only certain hitches that work in the underbed elite system. The slider you will need is # RP30144. The hitch comes pre-assembled. It has round rails on which it slides to prevent binding. It has the most secure jaw on any 5th wheel hitch available. And it has a wide 9 inch funnel to make hooking up easier.

I have included a link to all of the 5th wheel options for your truck. Just click on the model that represents your truck to see all of the options.
