The first thing you are going to need for a towing setup for your 2005 Ford Freestar will be a hitch. For that I recommend the Draw-Tite Trailer Hitch # 75158. This is a Class III hitch with a 2 inch opening that will give you more towing capacities then a Class III hitch as well as more options in the future as most bike carriers and cargo carriers are designed for 2 inch hitches.
The next thing you will need is a draw bar. I would recommend you get a Ball Mount # 2753 as well as hitch balls # 19247 and # 19261. You will also need pin and clip to secure the ball mount into the hitch, for that I recommend Pin and Clip # PC3.
For wiring I would recommend you get a Tow Ready Custom Fit Vehicle Wiring # 118385. I attached an installation video and installation instructions for this product for you to check out also.
Since you referenced a weight distribution system in your question you should note that if the weight of your pop-up trailer is more than half of the weight of your tow vehicle you should use a weight distribution system. I attached an FAQ on weight distribution systems for you to check out.
