Tips On Cleaning Out Weldnuts for Trailer Hitch Installation on a 2005 Toyota Matrix
Question:
Trying to install a hidden hitch I just bought on my 2005 Matrix. Cant get the bolts it came with to thread in the holes on the frame.? Tried cleaning the holes but the threads are in rough shape. Any suggestions on how I can re thread those holes and what size bolts and size thread should I have? I bought them used and they came off a 2006. Mine is a 2005..Is there a difference? Thanks inadvance!

The Hidden Hitch Trailer Hitch Receiver, # 60965, does fit a 2005 and a 2006 Toyota Matrix, so provided the hardware is correct it should fit. The bolts should be 12mm x 40mm hex bolts according to the instructions I have linked for you to view.
If cleaning out the bolt holes with a spray lubricant and wire brush (it can take a long time and a lot of elbow grease) just does not work, you can make a tap. But, you have to be very careful to thread the tap in straight. I have included a link to a video on making a tap.
