Tire Chains or Traction Device Recommendation for a 2011 Audi A4
Question:
dealer says dont use any cables of chains. Law says to carry chains. do you have cables that will fit this vehicle without damaging it?

Expert Reply:
Car dealers often state not to use tire chains on vehicles. It limits their liability. But like you said some places require chains by law and no dealer or car manufacturer can suggest you break the law. This is the Tire Chain Paradox or Mike's Law. When confronted with this fact the dealer should back down.
You didn't mention your tire size but if it is the standard 225/50-17 tires on your 2011 Audi A4 then you could use the snow socks # TCH66. These are going to require less clearance than any chain or cable and they meet DOT requirements in every state. And since they are no cables or chains not only will you be in compliance with the law but in compliance with the dealer as well.
