Patriot Shows Low Battery Error After Flat Towing 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid for 30 Minutes

Why do I get the low battery message when towing for only 20-30 minutes with my 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid? Also, How can I tell what the battery level of the brk2012 unit is?

the Patriot braking system # BRK2016 doesn't have a battery indicator but if you are getting the low battery error and the vehicle battery is not low then you will need to charge the Patriot per the instructions.
Also, it could depend on the lighting system you are using. If it is somehow drawing power from the vehicle battery then that could be the problem. It is recommended to just use magnetic lights such as # C-ATL20A on the 2014 Ford Fusion Hybrid.
And finally, make sure that the breakaway portion of the Patriot is properly installed and that the pin is not pulled out per the installation instructions (linked for reference).
