Ford Trailer Hitch Cover CR-007F Causes Trailer Disconnected Message on 2016 Ford Expedition

I had the trailer light #CR-007F on a 2010 expedition. This same light fits into the trailer opening on my 2016, but the wiring causes a message to come up that says trailer disconnected when there is no trailer, just the light. The dealer says the wiring is not compatible. Is there an adapter that would make it compatible?

What is happening is that the light in trailer hitch cover # CR-007F does not draw enough power so it confuses the tow package wiring on your 2016 Ford Expedition. There is an adapter you can use, # C35FR, that simulates more load and should solve the problem.
The other option is to install load resistors, such as # DI34ZR, in line with the light wiring. You would need one for each circuit (3 total).
