If the Draw-Tite Brake Controller, # 5504, does not show output strength but it shows the decimal point all the time, then the red wire going to your stoplight switch is connected to the wrong side of the stoplight switch or to a wrong switch (cruise control).

You will want to make sure the red wire on your brake controller is connected to the cold side of your stoplight switch, which is the side that will show power only when the brake pedal is pressed.

If the brake controller shows just the decimal point when the manual switch is pushed, but not when the brakes are applied, then it will also be a stoplight switch problem. Either no connection or wrong connection at the stoplight switch or blown fuse in the stoplight circuit.

If the brake controller does not show the decimal point when the brakes are applied or when the manual switch is pushed, then you will need to check the white ground wire to make sure you are attached to a good, clean metal surface. Also, you will want to check the black power wire to make sure it is connected to the positive side of the battery and that the inline fuse is not blown.

Since you are checking the wire connections you will want to check the blue wire (electric brakes) to make sure it is connected to the blue wire from the vehicle connector on the back of your vehicle.

I am sending you a link to the instructions for the Draw-Tite Brake Controller, # 5504, that will give this information and other troubleshooting tips.
