The Edge Evolution CTS Programmer, # EP85250, is a performance chip for the 1998 Ford F-150 with a 5.4L Triton V8. What it can do is download its own software onto the truck computer which will allow it to take control of, and optimize, various components of the engine and transmission. It will change shift points for the best performance, increase fuel efficiency by regulating air and fuel intake, and increase horse power and torque while getting the most out of your engine.

The chip has its own built-in gauges that will show average miles per gallon, boost settings, transmission temperature, and many others. The CTS version has a color touch screen for easy user interface and easily readable displays.

The only major con is the programming. If there is a problem with the truck computer, installing the Edge programmer could disable the vehicle. It would then have to be towed to a dealer and re-programmed with the stock software. If you were to take it in for repairs, the diagnostic equipment may not work because of the new software in the computer. But you can always restore the factory software to return the truck back to its original state.

There is also a federal law that states, in part, that a vehicle warranty cannot be voided by the installation or use of aftermarket products unless said product is the direct cause of the malfunction or failure. More information can be found on Page 7 of the instructions linked below.

The benefits of the Edge CTS far outweigh the cons. I have included a link to the installation details and a video review of the Edge Programmers below.
