Trailer Hitch Installation - 2015 Volkswagen Golf - Curt

Today on our 2015 Volkswagen Golf we're going to be taking a look at the and installing the CURT class one trailer hitch receiver, part number C11412. Here's what this hitch is going to look like once it's installed on the vehicle. As you can see, the crosstube is visible all the way across here, but with how it matches up with the body lines on the vehicle it still maintains a very clean look. It features a 1-1/4" by 1-1/4" receiver tube opening with this nice reinforcement collar that's welded on around it to give it a nice durable, clean look. It's got a 1/2" hitch pinhole in order to secure all of the class one accessories. Has the welded-on plate-style safety chain connection points and nice large diameter holes in order to get those connected. With where this hitch comes out you should have plenty of space for most class one hitch-mounted accessories that you may want to use with this and not have to worry about very many of them being too close to the rear of the vehicle to be able to use.

Volkswagen Golf Questions

  • If I had to choose between the two, I would choose the XTC-2, part # S64670. Not only do the rubber straps you refer to further secure the bikes to the rack, but the wheel hoops themselves are much stronger. The rack includes a threaded hitch pin, but I would recommend the optional locking hitch pin/cable lock combo part # S64031.

  • The Hopkins Brake Controller, part # HM47297, will work for your 2010 Volkswagen Golf. With limited space, the option of three separate components can prove to be a benefit. It features seven sensitivity levels that allow you to adjust the braking power and aggressiveness, and has a built-in, slide-style manual override. Mounting hardware is included with this brake controller. There are a couple of other things needed to complete the brake controller installation. You will...

  • On your 2016 Volkswagen Golf Curt trailer hitch # C11412 will have the receiver slightly below the rear fascia. If you measured up from the ground to the bottom of the rear fascia and then subtracted 1-3/4 inches that would be approximately where the bottom of the hitch would be. Draw-Tite hitch # 24925 would be the better option. It is tucked up a little higher compared to the Curt hitch so I recommend going with it. For a bike rack you will need one that is compatible...

  • Draw-Tite trailer hitch # 24825 will fit a 2012 Volkswagen Golf TDI. This hitch is designed so that the receiver is below the crosstube as you can see in the pictures. This makes most of the hitch hidden underneath the vehicle. I have included a link to the installation instructions for you. This hitch will need the recommended ball mount. For a ball you can use # 19256 for a 1-7/8 inch diameter or # 19258 for a 2 inch diameter. For trailer wiring, use # 119190KIT. I have included...

  • I spoke with my contact at Tow Ready and verified that the Tow Ready Modulite Wiring Harness, # 119190KIT, is the correct wiring harness for your 2012 Volkswagen Golf TDI. Your vehicle uses a 3-wire multiplex wiring system, meaning it sends multiple signals along the same wire. To install this wiring harness in your vehicle, you will use the included circuit tester to test the wires at the back of the tail light assembly. Using the circuit tester, test for the wire that carries...

  • We do offer both the Yakima Jetstream and the Whispbar roof racks that are designed to fit your 2012 Golf 5-door. There are a couple differences between the racks, and that may make a difference when choosing which one you want. The Whispbar crossbar measures 3-5/8 inches wide and 1 inch tall while the Yakima Jetstream crossbar measures 3-1/8 inches wide and 1 inch tall. That can make a difference when attaching any accessories. The Whispbar system also comes with locks that...

You would also need the appropriately sized trailer ball, part # 19256 for a 1-7/8 inch ball or # 19258 for a 2 inch ball. • For a trailer hitch for your 2015 Volkswagen Golf TDI you can use # 24925. If you want to use the hitch for an accessory such as a bike rack or cargo carrier then you have to make sure the accessory is rated for use with a Class I trailer hitch. Also, with a bike rack, you are limited to 2 bikes maximum on a Class I hitch. I recommend the Trailhead # S63360. Another option is to use a trunk mount carrier. The benefit of a trunk mount is that you will not have to install a hitch...
