Determining the Bolt Pattern

The first number in the bolt pattern is the number of bolt holes. The second number denotes the diameter, in inches, of the circle on which the bolt holes sit.

Bolt Pattern - Even

On wheels with an even number of bolt holes, measure from the center of one bolt hole to the center of the hole directly across from it. (Example: "8 on 6-1/2" means 8 bolt holes with 6-1/2" from the center of one hole to the center of another on the opposite side.)

Bolt Pattern - Odd

To determine the bolt-circle diameter on wheels with an odd number of bolt holes, measure from the center of any bolt hole to the point halfway between the two bolt holes directly across from the first. (Example: "5 on 4-1/2" means 5 bolt holes with 4-1/2" measured to a point halfway between the opposite bolt holes.)

Bolt Pattern Side

Measuring the distance (D) from the center of one bolt hole on the wheel to the center of a bolt hole right next to it can also help to determine the bolt pattern.

  • If D = 2-5/8", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-1/2"
  • If D = 2-3/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 4-3/4"
  • If D = 3", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5"
  • If D = 3-1/4", then the bolt pattern is 5 on 5-1/2"

  • What Hubs do I Need for My 1998 Calkins Boat Trailer?
If both of your inner and outer bearings are # L44649, you most likely have a 2K axle. Depending on your bolt pattern, I recommend the following hubs: - Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2,000-lb Axles # AKIHUB-545-2-G-2K (5 on 4-1/2 pattern) - Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2,000-lb Axles - 4 on 4 # 8-91-05UC1 (4 on 4 pattern) If you need the hub/drum combination, I recommend the following: - Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 2K Axles - 7" Diameter - 5 on 4-1/2 # AKHD-545-2-2K (5...

  • Needing Dexter Hub # 8-91A
The hub that you are looking for comes in the Trailer Hub Assembly # 8-91-05UC1 on our site. For the E-Z Lube version you would instead want the Trailer Hub Assembly # 8-91-05UC1-EZ. I contacted Dexter Axle and confirmed that these were the correct hubs for the 8-91A hub you are looking to purchase.

  • How to Determine Correct Hub Replacement for 1994 Jayco Eagle SD with Dexter Axle
I'm happy to help find a hub replacement for your Jayco Eagle, but in order to find the correct one, I'll need to know the inner and outer bearing numbers as well as the grease seal inner and outer diameter. You could alternatively use a digital caliper # PTW80157 to measure the portion of the spindle on which each component rides. From your photos it appears your wheel bolt pattern is a 4 on 4, but you'll want to confirm that just to be sure. Below are a couple diagrams to help.

  • Replacement Dexter Hub for 8-91A Hub
If the hub that was on your trailer axle previously had 8-91A stamped on the back of it your spindle should require inner and outer bearings of # L44649 like you used. The part # 8-91-05UC1 SHOULD be an exact replacement. However we need to double check your grease seal measurement. Double check to make sure you don't have a 1.5 inner diameter seal with outer diameter of 1.9. You can also measure the spindle where the seal rides as well. The seal dimensions you mentioned are not ones...

  • Recommended Replacement Hub for Dexter 8-91A
I reached out to my contact at Dexter regarding the numbers you gave. They couldn't match anything and suggested that you most likely have a 8-91A, which is a 4 on 4 bolt pattern. That is a very basic trailer hub assembly and the replacement part is # 8-91-05UC1. This assembly comes with the L44643 bearings, the grease seal, the lugs and the grease cap. I'd suggest a bearing packer like # PTW1218 and the Industrial Strength Grease # L11390.

  • Do You Have Something Similar to a 8-91A Hub in a 5 Lug Pattern Instead of 4 on 4?
Hello Ryan, How about a 5 on 4 1/2 bolt pattern? I looked up the specs on the 8-91A and it has both L44649 for the inner and outer bearing. I do not have any hubs in a 5 on 5, or 5 on 5.5" like you requested, but we do have them in a 5 on 4 1/2" which now a days is an extremely common bolt pattern. Our Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2K Axles # AKIHUB-545-2-LF-2K will work great just as long as your wheels are 13-15", for EZ lube spindle you want # AKIHUB-545-2-LFEZ-2K. If your wheels are...

  • Can L44643 Bearings and L44649 Bearings Be Exchanged
Yes, the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly part # 8-91-05UC1 will work with the bearing part # L44643 and the race part # L44610. They both have a 1.980" outer diameter which is why they are compatible with the above trailer hub. As long as your spindle has a 1" diameter where the bearing sits this option will work for you.

  • Dexter Torflex #9 1000-2200 lbs Axle Hub and Bearing Kit Replacements
The current hub for your Torflex #9 axle uses the inner and outer bearings # L44649 with a grease seal that has a 1.500" inner diameter. You can find the bearing kit as part # BK1-150 on our site. For a replacement hub we have the part # 8-91-05UC1 for a standard spindle or part # 8-91-05UC1-EZ for E-Z Lube spindles. If you have brakes then you would want part # 8-173-16UC3 for a standard spindle or part # 8-173-16UC3-EZ for E-Z Lube spindles. All of these hub kits come with bearings and...

  • Does a Trailer Wheel Center Hole and a Hub Bore have to Match
The expert answer you have referenced is correct. A wheel that secures to the hub using bolts instead of lug nuts actually centers on the hub so the pilot hole of the wheel has to be exact. If it is too large the wheel can easily be off center and lead to all sorts of problems. Hub # 8-91-05UC1 has a center bore outer diameter of approximately 2.4375 inches; very close to 2.5 inches but not quite. If you use this hub and the wheels you are using have a pilot hole that is larger, it will...

The part # 8-91-05UC1 that you referenced would be an exact replacement. Grease seal # 10-9 is the correct replacement seal also. It has an inner diameter of 1.5 inch and an outer diameter of 1.987. • What is the Replacement Wheel Hub Needed on the Axle of a 1996 Jayco 1207 Popup Trailer
We have a hub that will fit your 1996 Jayco popup trailer. The Dexter Trailer Hub assembly, # 8-91-05UC1-EZ, that you referenced will work on your trailer axle. This hub uses the # L44649 bearings and has a 4 bolt lugs. Measuring the current hubs bolt pattern will tell you for sure if this hub will work for you. • Trailer Hub Compatible with Caliper Measurement for Camping Trailer Axle
Based on your photo it does appear you have the BTR spindle that takes the 1.063 inch inner bearings. The fact that it isn't a digital caliper with the precision of that thousandth does leave slight ambiguity but I am still confident you will want the Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly # 8-91-05UC1. You will not need the # 8-91-05UC1-EZ you asked about because you don't have the grease zerk in your spindles. To confirm fit, I recommend putting your caliper on the grease seal location...

  • Is there a Torque Spec for Installation of Castle Nut on 2,000 lb Axle?
The castle nuts do not have a torque spec. Bearings and races are fit to the spindle precisely and will have minimal movement to the washer and castle nut which will simply be tightened and held in place with the cotter pin # 165649. We recommend tightening until the nut stops without added force and then backing it off one notch to fit the castle nut. The Dexter Trailer Idler Hub Assembly for 2,000-lb Axles - 4 on 4 - L44649 Bearings # 8-91-05UC1 is a fit for 1.063 inch spindles and...

  • Replacement Bearing and Hub Kit Recommendation for Aluma 5310
Your bearings having an inner diameter of 1-1/16 inch indicates you have a standard size spindle. The size matches the BTR spindle. The bearings part # L44649 that you referenced match what you'd need. For a hub that will fit this we have the part # 8-91-05UC1 for an idler hub with a 4 on 4 inch bolt pattern. Then if you need a 5 on 4-1/2 inch bolt pattern instead you'd want the part # 8-259-5UC1-EZ.

The hub assembly will fit 2,000 pound axles. I recommend pulling the hub on your trailer to confirm the bearing numbers.
