Our fifth wheel experienced pin box cross frame cracking while on a trip. After having it properly repaired I decided to invest in the Trail-air pin box to alleviate the shock and harsh pounding from our lousy roads. I purchased from etrailer.com and installed it myself. Being only a 29 foot 5th wheel the tounge weight is low so after experimenting with pressures I run 40 psi in it and it flexes when hitting bumps or dips taking the stress off the trailer. Tows like a dream. Knowing what I know now I would have bought and installed it when I bought the 5th wheel and saved a repair during a trip. It is expensive but well worth it.
the fit was perfert. as you can see from the pictures is attached, i drilled a hole in the top to drain water that collects. i fabercated a cover to fit over the opening.
I’ll start from the second I ordered this online. Confirmation email, then within days a shipping confirmation. When I ordered my shipping said 2 weeks out for delivery. I got the item in 9 days. The communication from the freight service was top notch. Unlike, some reviews the item was in great condition when it arrived. On a pallet in a box. No complaints. The driver even let me back up to his lift gate and help me slide the item into my truck for easier install. I had previously removed the factory hitch box prior to arrival so when the upgraded item arrived I was ready for install. Took about an hour to line everything up. Used a jack in the truck bed to help lift item where I needed it. I haven’t towed with it yet, that’ll be next week. But it looks beastly and like it’ll be a much more comfortable ride for me and my truck. Very happy so far, will leave an updated review after an out of state trip next weekend. etrailer was great. Best upgrade to the 5th wheel you can do. Our first cross country trip and I-40 beat the snot out of us on all the bridge transitions with the stock pin box. Immediately ordered this unit and now it’s like the trailer is floating behind us. I run 65 psi in the airbag. Solid unit and easy installation.
The king pin has eliminated about 80% of the chucking. I pull 16k fiver. I am very happy with it. Related I always use etrailer for my parts purchase. One time I was stranded near Disneyland. I needed shackle. They had me triple check for correct part and rushed delivery. These guys are the real deal.
Obviously a quality product made with quality materials. As you can see in the photo I placed the bottom bolts in the bottom hole. Problem is the bottom steel place is very close to the hardware so I had to have the bolt facing outward on the two bottom forward bolts. Don’t like torquing bolt heads but it worked. This is being very nit picky Torqued to 160 ft lbs.
This is an outstanding pin box. It makes our trailer pull really nice. I know everyone says "I didn't even know I was towing anything" which is usually not the case, however with this, it really was like nothing was/is behind me. I highly recommend this product.
With the help of my wife, I had the Flex Air pin box installed within 1.5 hours. Used a floor jack on top of my pickup tailgate.
Easy install. I dropped it down one hole Vs. the factory one and still has all 10 bolts without drilling any holes.
I love this AirRide by Trail-air. It provides an incredibly smooth ride on the road. You can adjust the amount of air for your ride, the Schrader valve is right on top of the unit and easy to access. My Trail air installed easily on my Forest River Sandpiper 372LOK mid bunk, especially with help from my Dad. This Trailair solved a big problem for me. I needed an extra couple of inches space between my 2018 Ford Super Duty DRW and the coach. My truck came with the Ford factory-installed Reese 27K hitch and I needed more clearance to allow the tailgate to drop without touching the coach. The kingpin on the Trailair sits at least 2” forward of the factory kingpin and provided that desperately needed space. It really makes for smooth and quiet ride !
etrailer folks were very helpful. The first unit was damaged by the freight company and when I notified them, etrailer sent another unit quickly. I will buy from etrailer whenever I can..

I still love the ride it provides- always smooth. Wouldn’t use a standard kingpin again. The airbags lose air over time- it’s my only complaint. Not enough to effect performance on a week-long trip but it loses air. I tightened the fill valve. Will re-tape the valve again if needed.
Added this pin box to improve ride and give my rv a smoother pull. The owners manual says you can use the orginal nuts and bolts, but felt getting new ones that are grade 8 was the best route for me.
The pin box had several deep scratches due to shipping so I mounted it and then painted over the scratches and resolved the problem.
The rebound shock didn't have the yellow arrow like the one in the pictures, does have an max inflation stamped in the shock but black on black doesn't help for proper inflation so I painted the arrow yellow, not great but it works.
Number one issue is no matter the inflation of the airbag I can't get it too the top of the arrow as required. I checked the PSI on the airbag and was at 135 PSI. I felt that was too high of air pressure and there's nothing in the manual or online to say how much air should be in an airbag so I went with 98 PSI to be safe.
As for the ride I feel it was an improvement over the previous pin box but to be honest my F450 has airbags as well, so was the improvement due to the pin box or because of the truck airbags. I'll go with both had factors with the ride. But the number 1 factor for me was the 21000 weight capacity. 4 out of 5 is the issue with inflation and what's correct.

Its been a year since last review, still havent had any issues with the pin box. Works well and provides a smooth ride under most conditions. If you run into rough patches on the road youll feel it and in my opinion there isnt anything made today that will eliminate that type of chucking. I also have airbags on my truck and it still happens. Now for the pin box 1. It works as advertised and improves the ride substantially. 2. The pin box is very well built and no issues period. 3. One issue is the air valve on top of the pin box which makes you get up into the truck bed to fill it with air. What would be a improvement would have a extension that attaches to the valve that would allow you to add air without having to get into the truck bed. To summarize, this pin box has been a great investment and if youre looking a replacement box, youll be happy you purchased this one.

This is the second Trailair hitch I have purchased. Fast shipping and easy to install on our new DRV Fullhouse JX390. Much better than the Mor-Ryde hitch DRV uses. Now no bounce in the truck on rough roads.
Looks like a very good product, Easy installation only took an hour. Took it on a short test run On a very rough road It seemed to work well but we'll know more on the next upcoming trip. Packaging was inadequate could have used more Tie down straps , but no damage.etrailer is great to work with!!!
The trailair pin box I ordered and received looks be be everything I was told it would be. I have not bin able to road test the hitch yet as it's only early March and living in north east Minnesota, we still have about two feet of snow . I'm sure hoping it works as well as its supposed to.

I lovin the ride with this air ride pinbox. It works well for the ride on both truck and trailer, glad I decided to make the investment.
The package arrived with installation parts missing. It was very disappointing. etrailer was notified and sent another package, hopefully this time with all parts needed for installation.
Can’t believe what a difference it made. Pulling a 38’ Avalanche with a 2019 Ram dually and we now glide over formerly rough bridge approaches. I’m 76 and my brother-in-law is 69 and we installed it at our RV Park in about 20 minutes! That included removing the old one! Recommending it to all my friends!
Smooths out the porpoising when traveling over rough roads and at uneven bridge abuttments.
Stout, quality pin box. Quick shipping and great service. The final condition of the shipping container and some heavy scaring on the pin box left much to be desired from the freight carrier, but scuffs don't effect the functionality of the component.
This is the 2nd air ride hitch i've purchased. First one was on another 5th wheel and stupidly didn't keep it when I traded for the one I have now. They work great! It takes the shock out of the bumpy roads and keeps camper insides from re-arranging when traveling. Very happy with the hitch.
Have the Lippert Components Trailair fifth wheel king pin installed on our 40 foot Big Country has made the difference in pulling the trailer down the road. I would recommend the King Pin if pulling a fifth wheel trailer. Now we don't even know it behind us. Great Product.
Really made a positive improvement in towing my RV. The hitch absorbs the shocks from the trailer when towing and therefore the ride is much better in the tow vehicle. I also think it works the other way as well, RV is somewhat shielded from shocks the tow vehicle is experiencing. Am so impressed that I moved it over to our new RV. Well worth the time and cost to buy and install.
I will not own another 5th wheel without this type of pin box. It absorbs the shock and improves the ride tremendously. It was recommended to me by a friend and I would do the same. Well built and worth every penny.
Very nice pin box. Did not realize it was much wider than the original 1621 pin box I had. With the slider hitch I had to rebuild the plate which adapts the hitch to the trailer.
Before installing the airride , dish's shifted and draws opened. Now with easy installation and running 10 thousand miles none of the old problems appeared. Warning, always before leaving check air shock to be at the top of the arrow on shock.

Borrowed a tractor, dropped the old and lifted this monster into place. 12- 15/16 bolts (originally) 18 hole mount. Not sure if the height is correct for the bed, but will adjust it down if after the rubber bumper is inflated, if it doesn’t sit level. The bolt pattern was correct. better get help! From dropping the MFG lippert, to getting the thing lifted an bolts snugged up, about 45min. Will take a bit longer to attach the deadman switch and electrical box. Well crafted, definitely heavy. This should save my truck n RV from porpoising damage as I’m going over Bridges and bad roads.

Have put around 10K miles on the hitch so far and it has performed well. An extra step in the pre-departure checklist to check the airbag pressure/ride height, but it is worth it as it greatly reduces the jarring from pot holes and abrupt changes in road surface. Installation was easy; perfect fit.
Exact fit replacement for cheap Keystone OEM part. Fit was so exact, I installed it by myself. Arrived earlier than expected. I hope this will reduce the chucking and smooth out the pull of a 16K RV trailer. I did have to purchase additional bolt sets from my local Home Depot (OEM was 12 sets, this is 18 sets 5/8-11 x 2in Grade 8 with flat and lock washers all torqued to 180 ft lbs).

I purchased this Lippert Air Ride hitch for my 40 foot Genesis Supreme trailer and wish I had bought it 2 years ago and installed it. My hitch is working great! It has made a big difference in how well the trailer rides on my truck. No more harsh bumps when I drive over rough roads or poor bridge approaches. Awesome product!
Pinbox came 3 days earlier then expected. It was packaged well, no damage. I unbolted the original inbox and 2 friends lifted the Curt into place and I bolted it back into place. Took about 15 minutes. Now for the real test when we head back up to the north for the Summer in Montana.
Good looking product. Mounted it on a Montana 40ft 5th wheel. It arrived 2 weeks ahead of schedule. It was easy to install. I did have to grind the corners of the trailer frame bracket as the jaw hinge wouldn’t allow the bolt holes to line up. Once the corners were ground, everything lined up perfectly. It only took my son and I to pick up the pin box and once the first bolt was in, it was simple and easy to do the rest. There are 3 things to complain about. 1. The position of the air valve sucks. Really hard to get at. 2. The mark on the shock for proper inflation is not marked well. Had to get on hands and knees with a flashlight to actually see it. It was suppose to be bright yellow, it’s black, same as the shock. My 3rd complaint would be the fact that I had to drill 3 holes into the pin box to reattach the brake safety cable and the electrical wire box. The biggest positive thing is, is how much of a difference it has made in the ride quality for not only with the trailer but the truck as well. Soooo much smoother than the original pin box. Would I buy another one? You better believe I would. Wondering why I didn’t buy it sooner. Won’t have another 5th wheel without it.
Have not did a road test yet but it’s installed.
Way heavier than factory. I have talked to many that have this and like it.
Helps reduce chucking back and forth movement. Nothing will be solve all if you are on a rough road you will feel it.
No hitch will eliminate.
Was fairly easy to install you will need help to lift. I used the tailgate on the truck and backed under and used blocking to get in place. I installed pretty much myself. My wife help some with aligning the bolts.
This is my second trailair pin box and I just love them it takes all of the bouncing out of the truck in the camper and makes it a smooth ride. Shipping was great and product came packaged as good as possible.
We bought a new fifth wheel right after we bought the pen box and we were going to have it put on our new fifth wheel but the bolt holes didn’t match up. Therefore it was never used and has been sitting on our RV LOT ever since. We couldn’t rate because never used it but only way it would let us submit our comments

Congrats on the new RV! I suspect what happened is that the new RV does not have a Lippert 1116 5th-wheel pin box. This does mean that the mounting bolt pattern will be different which you discovered. I think that your best bet will be to sell the pin box. If you can tell me the pin box number of the pin box that is on your new RV I can tell you if there is a Trail Air pin box that will work.
Tremendous difference in the way the 5th wheel and pickup rides after installation. Well worth the money. Fast shipping from etrailer.
I think the air takes some of the roughness out of the ride. It seems better than my previous pin box. I believe however that the air chambers lose air over time and I have had to add air before some of my trips. I don’t think air chambers need to be replaced but monitored for air pressure.
Air Ride Pinbox arrived on time and in excellent condition. It is a perfect fit and was an easy installation.

I towed our Keystone Raptor about five thousand miles with the original pin box before I decided to try to smooth out the ride so purchased and installed the Trailair Air Ride 5th wheel pin box. I have since towed it approximately Six thousand miles and We are completely satisfied.
Havent used it yet, but M19 pin box is well made. As usual, etrailer shipped it quick and it arrived with zero defects. Ill update after first use
Excellent item! Works exactly as promised. The only issue I have, which is a small one, is that I have to pump up the doughnut before every trip because the air will leak out. Not a big deal because I have the compressor out to pump up the tires anyway. This pin box takes 98% of the chucking and side-to-side motion out of our fifth wheel. Makes for a lot less white knuckle driving, eases everyone's nerves, and we arrive at our destination without the near whiplash we used to have. If you are looking for a way to ease the ride, this is an excellent product to accomplish that goal.
The TrailAir pin box is a good upgrade from an entry level unit. You have to learn what the ideal air pressure needs to be for your rig, ie, trial and error.
The TrailAir calms the fifth wheel trailer quit a lot going over bridge entries and over rough roads. It would be nice if they would install a tee on the air inlet port with the air add fitting and an air pressure gauge so that one could see the actual bladder air pressure anytime.
Great product. Easy installation. With regular hitch, truck jarred really hard at bridge transitions. The air ride hitch took all the jarring out of the truck. Chevy 2500HD Duramax. 40’ fifth wheel.

Delivery was quick and product was as advertised. I called customer support (Danielle H) and she was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Danielle helped me make sure I ordered the proper Trailair king pin based on dimensions of my current 5th wheel.
Can’t believe it can be so easy to back up with this hitch. Never go back to a standard hitch. I m sold forever but the capture plate for each hitch needs to be added to the hitch or at least give the part # for that specific item.
This 5th wheel pin works great smooth ride nothing moves in the trailer. After traveling 6000 miles last winter
Looks very good but I won't be installing the pin box until April we still have over 3 ft. of snow on the ground, Hope I can get the 5th wheel hooked up by April 9 ....
This kingpin changes the feel of chucking and sudden impact loading (bridge abutments at 70 MPH). The energy is translated differently than a rigid pin…. It does not eliminate chucking or impact load, but it has eliminated the sense that my stiff sprung dually is going to bounce my trailer to death. Would not be without it!
Had problems with air leaking. Found the valve stem was not tight.
Don't feel that it helped the ride characteristics very much.
